This hymn of Kaṇva invokes the Aśvinau to come swiftly in their radiant chariot and drink the sweetest Soma pressed for them, “increasing Ṛta” and restoring well-being. It repeatedly asks the Twin Healers to bestow ratna (jewels/powers) and rayi (prosperity, plenitude) drawn from every realm—earthly depths and heavenly expanses—upon the generous worshipper. The sukta closes by reaffirming the Aśvins’ long-standing intimacy with the Kaṇva ritual sessions, making the invitation both personal and traditional.
Mantra 1
अयं वां मधुमत्तमः सुतः सोम ऋतावृधा । तमश्विना पिबतं तिरोअह्न्यं धत्तं रत्नानि दाशुषे ॥
This for you is the most honeyed Soma, pressed out, O increasers of Ṛta; drink it, O Aśvins, the Soma that passes beyond the day, and place in the giver the jewels—powers of fulfilled being.
Mantra 2
त्रिवन्धुरेण त्रिवृता सुपेशसा रथेना यातमश्विना । कण्वासो वां ब्रह्म कृण्वन्त्यध्वरे तेषां सु शृणुतं हवम् ॥
Come, O Aśvins, with the well-formed chariot of three seats and triple turning, beautiful in its shaping. The Kaṇvas fashion the brahman in the sacrifice; listen well to their call.
Mantra 3
अश्विना मधुमत्तमं पातं सोममृतावृधा । अथाद्य दस्रा वसु बिभ्रता रथे दाश्वांसमुप गच्छतम् ॥
O Aśvins, drink the most honeyed Soma, O increasers of Ṛta; and now, O wonder-workers, bearing the good riches in your chariot, come near to the giver who offers.
Mantra 4
त्रिषधस्थे बर्हिषि विश्ववेदसा मध्वा यज्ञं मिमिक्षतम् । कण्वासो वां सुतसोमा अभिद्यवो युवां हवन्ते अश्विना ॥
On the triple-seated sacred grass, O all-knowing ones, mingle the sacrifice with sweetness. The Kaṇvas, pressing Soma and aspiring upward, call you two, O Aśvins, to come into the work.
Mantra 5
याभिः कण्वमभिष्टिभिः प्रावतं युवमश्विना । ताभिः ष्वस्माँ अवतं शुभस्पती पातं सोममृतावृधा ॥
With those powers of ready help by which you, O Aśvins, brought Kanva forward into safety, by those very powers protect us well, O lords of luminous felicity; and drink the Soma, you who increase the growth of the Truth (ṛta).
Mantra 6
सुदासे दस्रा वसु बिभ्रता रथे पृक्षो वहतमश्विना । रयिं समुद्रादुत वा दिवस्पर्यस्मे धत्तं पुरुस्पृहम् ॥
O skillful Aśvins, bearing treasure on your chariot, drive hither with your strong steeds; place for us the rayi—whether from the ocean-depths or from the wide heaven above—richly desirable, a plenitude that the soul longs for.
Mantra 7
यन्नासत्या परावति यद्वा स्थो अधि तुर्वशे । अतो रथेन सुवृता न आ गतं साकं सूर्यस्य रश्मिभिः ॥
Whether, O Nāsatyas, you are in the far distance or stationed above Turvaśa, from there come to us with your well-turning chariot, together with the rays of the Sun—bringing the luminous rightness into our path.
Mantra 8
अर्वाञ्चा वां सप्तयोऽध्वरश्रियो वहन्तु सवनेदुप । इषं पृञ्चन्ता सुकृते सुदानव आ बर्हिः सीदतं नरा ॥
Let your seven-yoked (powers), radiant with the glory of the sacrifice, bring you hither to the Soma-pressing. Pouring out the flow of impulsion and increase for the doer of the good work, for the generous giver—sit down upon the sacred seat, O two heroic ones.
Mantra 9
तेन नासत्या गतं रथेन सूर्यत्वचा । येन शश्वदूहथुर्दाशुषे वसु मध्वः सोमस्य पीतये ॥
With that chariot whose very covering is solar, O Nāsatyas, come—by which you have ever borne to the giver the treasure and the sweetness, for the drinking of Soma’s delight.
Mantra 10
उक्थेभिरर्वागवसे पुरूवसू अर्कैश्च नि ह्वयामहे । शश्वत्कण्वानां सदसि प्रिये हि कं सोमं पपथुरश्विना ॥
With hymns we call you hither for help, O you of abundant riches, and with songs of flame. For in the beloved session of the Kaṇvas you have ever drunk the Soma—therefore come again to our inner assembly.
The Aśvinau are the twin Vedic gods who arrive swiftly in a chariot, heal and rescue beings in distress, and bring prosperity. In this sukta they are invited to drink Soma and to grant gifts to the worshipper.
The poet asks the Aśvins to accept the sweet Soma, strengthen ṛta (right order), and place ‘ratna’ (jewels/powers) and ‘rayi’ (prosperity, plenitude) in the giver—abundance coming from every realm.
It emphasizes an ongoing relationship: the Aśvins have ‘always’ drunk Soma in the Kaṇva ritual sessions. This makes the invitation credible and intimate—calling them to return as trusted allies of the lineage.
