RV 1.13 is a concise invitatory hymn that kindles Agni as hotṛ and messenger, asking him to bring the gods to the sacrifice and to make the offering effective. The verses proceed like a ritual roll-call—invoking key divine powers (including Night and Dawn) to sit on the barhis and partake—culminating in the household yajña made ready with svāhā so the gods may gather and strengthen the sacrificer.

Mantra 1

सुसमिद्धो न आ वह देवाँ अग्ने हविष्मते । होतः पावक यक्षि च ॥

Well-kindled, bring the gods to us, O Agni, for the one who bears the offering; O priest, O purifier, perform the giving (yaj) and the reception within.

Mantra 2

मधुमन्तं तनूनपाद्यज्ञं देवेषु नः कवे । अद्या कृणुहि वीतये ॥

O Tanūnapāt, make our sacrifice honey-rich among the gods, O seer; today shape it for their glad coming and enjoyment (vīti).

Mantra 3

नराशंसमिह प्रियमस्मिन्यज्ञ उप ह्वये । मधुजिह्वं हविष्कृतम् ॥

Nārāśaṃsa, the beloved, I call here to this sacrifice—honey-tongued, the fashioner of the offering—so the speech becomes sweetness that carries the oblation of our will.

Mantra 4

अग्ने सुखतमे रथे देवाँ ईळित आ वह । असि होता मनुर्हितः ॥

O Agni, on the most blissful chariot, bring the gods—thou who art adored; thou art the Hotar set in place by Manu, the will that institutes the human order of the sacrifice.

Mantra 5

स्तृणीत बर्हिरानुषग्घृतपृष्ठं मनीषिणः । यत्रामृतस्य चक्षणम् ॥

Spread the sacred seat (barhis) in ordered succession, O wise ones—its back anointed with ghee—there where the vision of immortality is beheld.

Mantra 6

वि श्रयन्तामृतावृधो द्वारो देवीरसश्चतः । अद्या नूनं च यष्टवे ॥

Let the divine doors, increasers of the Right, open wide—unfailing—today and now for the act of offering: that the passage to the higher world be made clear.

Mantra 7

नक्तोषासा सुपेशसास्मिन्यज्ञ उप ह्वये । इदं नो बर्हिरासदे ॥

Night and Dawn, beautiful in form, I call near to this sacrifice; sit upon this our barhis—enter the prepared seat of consciousness.

Mantra 8

ता सुजिह्वा उप ह्वये होतारा दैव्या कवी । यज्ञं नो यक्षतामिमम् ॥

Those two, the good-tongued, I call near—the two divine Hotars, the seer-powers—may they perform this sacrifice for us, making it a true act of offering in consciousness.

Mantra 9

इळा सरस्वती मही तिस्रो देवीर्मयोभुवः । बर्हिः सीदन्त्वस्रिधः ॥

May the three bliss-giving goddesses—Ilā, Sarasvatī, and Mahī—take their seat upon the sacred spread (barhis), uninjuring and without defect, establishing in us the ordered harmony of the offering and the luminous flow of inspired understanding.

इह त्वष्टारमग्रियं विश्वरूपमुप ह्वये । अस्माकमस्तु केवलः ॥

Here I call near Tvaṣṭṛ, the foremost shaper, the One of all forms; may he become wholly ours—so that the forming power in us fashions the being into a true and harmonious figure of the divine intention.

Mantra 11

अव सृजा वनस्पते देव देवेभ्यो हविः । प्र दातुरस्तु चेतनम् ॥

Release and send forth, O Lord of the Wood, the offering to the gods; and may the giver’s awareness be awakened and led forward—so the act of giving becomes conscious, luminous, and rightly ordered.

Mantra 12

स्वाहा यज्ञं कृणोतनेन्द्राय यज्वनो गृहे । तत्र देवाँ उप ह्वये ॥

Svāhā—make the sacrifice ready in the house of the doer of offering, for Indra; there I call the gods near, so the powers of the Truth may gather in the prepared inner home and strengthen the victorious force.
