AV 20.42 ترنيمةٌ موجزةٌ لإندرا مأخوذةٌ من مدوّنة المعارك في الريغفيدا، تُتلى كتعويذة نصرٍ تُسخِّر القوى الكونية (السماء والأرض) لزحف إندرا الهادر. وهي تجمع بين إحاطةٍ مانتريةٍ واقية (بواسطة فاك Vāc المُكرَّسة) وبين تصعيدٍ قتاليّ (إندرا يُستنهَض بالسُّوما)، بقصد إرجاف الخصوم وضمان عونٍ ثابتٍ لا يتزعزع لصفّ الممارس.

الكلامُ—ذو ثمانيةِ أقدامٍ، ذو تسعِ قلائدَ، الماسُّ لـ Ṛta (النظام الكوني)—هذا أُحيطُ به؛ ومن إندرا أقيسُه مُحِيطًا بجسدي.

अनु॑ त्वा॒ रोद॑सी उ॒भे क्रक्ष॑माणमकृपेताम्। इन्द्र॒ यद् द॑स्यु॒हाभ॑वः
من بعدك تتبعك العالَمان كلاهما، وأنت تزأر؛ فلا يَلِنَا ولا يَفْتُرا. يا إندرا، حين صرتَ قاتلَ الداسيو (Dasyu).

उ॒त्तिष्ठ॒न्नोज॑सा स॒ह पी॒त्वी शिप्रे॑ अवेपयः । सोम॑मिन्द्र च॒मू सु॒तम्
قائمًا بالقوّة والبأس، وبعد أن شربتَ، يا إندرا ذا الشفتين، جعلتَهم يرتجفون—سوما المعصور في الـ«چَمُو» (وعاء القربان).
