Sukta 7.24
आ नो विश्वाभिरूतिभिः सजोषा ब्रह्म जुषाणो हर्यश्व याहि । वरीवृजत्स्थविरेभिः सुशिप्रास्मे दधद्वृषणं शुष्ममिन्द्र ॥
ā no viśvā́bhir ūtíbhiḥ sa-jóṣā bráhma juṣāṇó hary-aśva yāhi | varīvṛ́jat sthavirébhiḥ su-śiprā́sme dádhad vṛ́ṣaṇaṃ śúṣmam indra ||
Indra is asked to come with all his helps, in harmony, delighting in the sacred word. Making wide room with the strong ones, O fair-lipped, place in us the bull-like force and impetuous might.
The seeker calls Indra to arrive with ‘all helps’—multiple movements of illumination, protection, and strength—‘sajoṣāḥ’, in glad accord: the inner powers must harmonize rather than conflict. Indra ‘delighting in brahman’ means the illumined mind responds to true mantric speech, not to mental noise. ‘Varīvṛjat sthavirebhiḥ’ is crucial: Indra widens the inner space by the strong ones—either the mature powers in us or Indra’s companions (Marut-like forces). Psychologically, this is the breaking of constriction, fear, and smallness. ‘Suśipra’ (fair-lipped) hints at the power of right expression and luminous command. The prayer culminates: ‘dadhad asme vṛṣaṇaṃ śuṣmam’—establish in us the bull-force, the impetuous energy: a divinized dynamism that can act with power under light.
Spiritual power must be harmonized, widened, and grounded in truth-speech. When constriction is removed, a purified might can be installed in the being—strength that serves illumination rather than ego.
Protection (ūti), Mantric power (brahman), Expansion (varīvas)
A hallmark of the Vasiṣṭha corpus is the insistence on widening (uru/varīvas) and establishing force in the human vessel through brahman and Indra’s aids.
Vasiṣṭha’s spirituality aims at ‘roominess’ and stable power: a vast inner field where divine force can be installed without distortion.
Opener of the way; widener of the worlds; giver of victorious might; supporter of the brahman.
Widening illumination that removes constriction and installs purified strength in the nature.
Indra stuti and request for strength (general Soma/Indra rite context)

Vast, harmonized, empowered—strength without strain
Chant 1 time slowly emphasizing widening; then 8 times steadily. After chanting, sit with attention in the chest (space) and belly (force), letting strength arise as calm pressure rather than agitation.
Maintain strong udatta on ‘ā no’, ‘viśvābhir ūtibhiḥ’, and ‘indra’; let ‘varīvṛjat’ be clearly articulated with a widening breath.
Slightly increase volume on ‘varīvṛjat’ (widening) and then firm, grounded tone on ‘dadhad… śuṣmam’.
viśvābhir: śv cluster clear; long ā in ābhir, ūtibhiḥ: long ū; aspirate bh, haryaśva: split har-yaś-va; palatal ś, śuṣmam: retroflex ṣ; keep short a
