Sukta 1.6
इन्द्रेण सं हि दृक्षसे संजग्मानो अबिभ्युषा । मन्दू समानवर्चसा ॥
índreṇa sáṃ hí dṛ́kṣase saṃjagmā́nó abíbhyuṣā | mandū́ samā́navarcasā ||
اندر کے ساتھ تم اتحاد میں دکھائی دیتے ہو، جو ڈرنے والی طاقت کے ساتھ ملے ہوئے ہیں؛ اے مندو، تم ایک ہی روشنی میں چلتے ہو۔
With Indra you are indeed seen in union—having come together with the unshrinking (power); O Mandū, you move in a single radiance.
The verse points to a yogic ‘joining’ (saṃ) where the seeker’s consciousness is seen (dṛkṣase) in union with Indra—illumined mind-power. ‘Abibhyuṣā’ (unshrinking, fearless) suggests the soul-force that does not recoil before inner obstacles. ‘Mandū’ can be read as a companion power/impulse of inspired movement—an energizing agency that, when united with Indra, moves with one radiance (samāna-varcasā): harmonized brilliance rather than scattered energies.
Illumination becomes stable when our energies unite with a fearless inner power; scattered parts become one radiance when aligned to the higher mind.
Indra-force, inner integration, courage against darkness, radiant unity
Vaiśvāmitra hymns often stress inner victory through Indra’s illumination and the harmonizing of powers (gaṇas/companions) around the central light.
The seer’s yoga is integrative: the many movements in us must ‘come together’ around Indra’s light until a single radiance governs thought and action.
Unifier and leader of luminous powers; establishes a victorious harmony by concentrating radiance against division and darkness.
The power of integrated illumination—bringing disparate impulses into one clear seeing and force.
Indra praise accompanying soma offering; also used as a unifying invocation before the main oblation.

Tight, syncopated feel with repeated ‘saṃ’—a sonic enactment of joining.
Creates a felt sense of convergence and coherence; good for collecting scattered attention into a single beam.
Indra-stotra in Soma rites (general Indra praise used in Soma-yajña recitations; specific śrauta mapping varies by śākhā tradition)
At moments of ‘saṃgati’—bringing powers together for effective offering and reception.
Stuti with emphasis on union and radiance; mental ‘gathering’ of faculties.
Chant before important work or meditation to integrate mind and vital; use as a ‘coherence mantra’ when feeling fragmented.
: indra- (lordship/force that ‘drops’ or ‘kindles’ power; traditionally from √ind ‘to invigorate’, also linked with strength) + instr. sg. -eṇa. : from √dṛś ‘to see, behold’; middle/passive 2nd sg. ‘you are seen/you appear’. : sam- + √gam ‘to go, come’ (perf./part. ‘having come together’), nom. sg. m. agreeing with an implied agent (the addressed power). : from √bhī ‘to fear’ with privative/intensifying morphology indicating ‘not fearing, not shrinking’; instr. sg. used as an accompanying power/means. (in ): from √vṛc/√varc ‘to shine, be bright’; ‘radiance, brilliance, spiritual lustre’.
R̥ta (right ordering through integration ‘sam’), Satyam (true vision implied by √dṛś ‘to see’ in the inner sense), vīrya (steadfast power, ‘not shrinking’)
Ṛta is experienced as inner coherence—many movements aligned into one luminous order.
Truth is not merely correct thought but a unified radiance that makes seeing effective.
From multiplicity to unity: the One radiance organizing the many forces.
Yoga of integration (proto-Sāṃkhya/Yoga in experiential form; Aurobindo’s ‘integral’ movement).
morning (radiance consolidating)
As the sun gathers the day into one light, Indra gathers inner forces into a single luminous will.
Saṃyama on ‘one radiance’: collect attention at the brow and feel all parts consenting to the higher light.
ājñā
Box-breath 4-4-4-4 for 3 cycles, then chant once per exhale; feel ‘saṃ’ as gathering inward.
Integrated, fearless luminous attention.
On ‘abibhyuṣā’, recall a habitual fear/avoidance; offer it into Indra’s light and feel it reorganize into courage and clarity.
Maintain clear udātta peaks on key syllables; give audible but gentle lift to repeated ‘saṃ’ without rushing.
Let the cadence emphasize convergence: saṃ … saṃ …; keep ‘abibhyuṣā’ unbroken and fluid.
: ‘in-dre-ṇa’ (retroflex ḍr cluster is dental ‘dr’ here), : ‘dṛk-ṣa-se’ (ṛ as vocalic r), : ‘saṃ-jag-mā-naḥ’ (nasal assimilation before j), : ‘a-bi-bhyu-ṣā’ (bhy cluster clear)
Bright, steady, collected tone; avoid wavering vibrato to support ‘single radiance’.
