FAQs

It exemplifies a common Purāṇic narrative pattern in which environmental disruption (anāvṛṣṭi, drought) precipitates movement toward a recognized ascetic authority (here, Gautama), reflecting how textual traditions frame social and ecological crisis management through learned lineages.

No specific toponym is stated in this verse. The setting is described generally as a forest environment (vane-carāḥ, “those who move/dwell in the forest”), and Gautama is referenced as a person rather than a place.

The verse foregrounds a pragmatic philosophical instruction: in conditions of collective hardship, communities seek guidance and support from established sources of wisdom and discipline, implying an ethic of consultation, refuge, and organized response rather than isolation.
