The Birth of the Aśvins: Solar Lineage, Saṃjñā and Chāyā, and the Granting of a Hymn and Boons
ye te māsāstā ādityāḥ svayaṃ saṃvatsaro hariḥ | evaṃ te dvādaśādityā mārttaṇḍaś ca pradhānavān || 20.6 ||
Varāha
It reflects a Purāṇic model of time-reckoning in which months are personified as Ādityas and the annual cycle (saṃvatsara) is linked to a supreme cosmic principle, illustrating how calendrical knowledge is embedded in mythic-theological language.
No specific geographic site is named in this verse; the content is cosmological and calendrical rather than topographical.
The verse does not state an explicit ethical injunction; its philosophical instruction is classificatory—presenting time (months/year) as an ordered cosmic system and associating that order with divine governance.
