The Sacred Geography and Merit of Dvārakā
muktasaṅgo mahābhāge modate varuṇālaye || athātra muñcate prāṇān haṃsakuṇḍe varānane ||
Varāha (default dialogue framework)
It reflects a widespread Purāṇic theme: tīrthas are not only pilgrimage sites but also imagined gateways within a layered cosmology (e.g., Varuṇa’s sphere).
Haṃsakuṇḍa is the named site; the cosmological destination “Varuṇālaya” is conceptual rather than a mappable terrestrial location.
The verse foregrounds detachment (mukta-saṅga) as the inner qualification associated with auspicious outcomes.
