FAQs

It introduces a māhātmya-style passage, a common Purāṇic genre used to frame the cultural memory and prestige of a pilgrimage landscape through dialogue and exemplary narratives.

Śālagrāma-kṣetra is named; in scholarship it is commonly associated with the Gandakī river region where Śālagrāma stones are traditionally found, though the verse itself does not specify a modern coordinate.

The verse foregrounds disciplined tapas (austerity) as a means of self-cultivation, framed within a respectful inquiry rather than a prescriptive command.
