Reverence and affection can coexist: the son honors, the mother blesses—dharma is embodied through touch and restraint.
Supports bhāva-sādhana: cultivating tenderness, gratitude, and receptivity to blessings (āśīrvāda) as a spiritual disposition.
The ‘head’ as seat of dignity—blessing signifies grace (anugraha) descending upon the seeker.
Reverence to mother as a lived echo of ‘mātṛ-devo bhava’ (later dharma teaching; conceptually aligned).
Mahābhārata: parental embraces before departures (conceptual parallels); Rāmacaritamānasa: vātsalya scenes of Kauśalyā embracing Rāma
Dharmaśāstra ethos of honoring parents
Ayodhyākāṇḍa: subsequent counsel and lament between Kauśalyā and Rāma
Anuṣṭup (śloka)
Solemn
Gentle, steady cadence; slight pause after ‘upasaṃgṛhya’
Respect to parents is dharma: reverent reception and affectionate bonds are shown as proper conduct within maryādā.
