Kaikeyi’s Boons and Dasaratha’s Moral Collapse
Ayodhya Kanda 12
pṛthivyāṃ sāgarāntāyāṃ yat kiñcid adhigamyate |
tat sarvaṃ tava dāsyāmi mā ca tvāṃ manyur āviśet ||
I shall give you all that can be secured on this earth bounded by the ocean. Show no anger.
The verse highlights the destructive power of anger and the king’s attempt to restore harmony through restraint and conciliation.
Daśaratha tries to pacify Kaikeyī by offering material wealth and sovereignty, hoping she will abandon her harsh insistence.
Daśaratha’s willingness to sacrifice possessions for peace—though it also shows the limits of material solutions in a dharma-crisis.
