Sukta 17
उत यत् पत॑यो॒ दश॑ स्त्रि॒याः पूर्वे॒ अब्रा॑ह्मणाः । ब्र॒ह्माचेद्धस्त॒मग्र॑ही॒त् स ए॒व पति॑रेक॒धा
utá yát pátayo dáśa striyā́ḥ pū́rve ábrāhmaṇāḥ | bráhmā céd hástam ágrahīt sá evá pátiḥ ekadhā́
And further: though of old a woman had ten husbands, men not Brahmins; if the Brahman took her hand, he—he alone—was husband, as one and without division.
ยิ่งกว่านั้น แม้ในกาลก่อนหญิงคนหนึ่งจะมีสามีสิบคน เป็นชายที่มิใช่พราหมณ์; หากพราหมณ์จับมือนาง (รับเป็นคู่พิธี) เขานั่นเอง—เขาเพียงผู้เดียว—เป็นสามี เป็นหนึ่งเดียวไม่แบ่งแยก.
