Forth with his mighty signal came the god, uncovering: upon the darkness the light pressed on. The heavenly fair-winged, that hero, made manifest—all worlds—Aditi’s son.
Rishi: Sūrya-hymn tradition (anukramaṇī-dependent)
Devata: Sūrya (Āditya)
Chandas: Triṣṭubh/Jagatī-type (to be confirmed by metrical count)
Primary: adbhuta
Secondary: shanta
Sāyaṇa glosses ‘ketu’ as the Sun’s rays functioning as a banner that announces and protects. ‘Apāvṛk’ is the removal of the night’s covering; ‘jyotiḥ aśrait’ expresses light’s decisive advance against darkness. ‘Divyaḥ suparṇaḥ’ is the solar bird metaphor (swift traverser of the sky). ‘Aditer putraḥ’ identifies Sūrya among the Ādityas, grounding his universal revelation (‘vyakhyat’) of all realms.
To ‘uncover’ hidden harm and drive away darkness conceived as a covering; to ensure clarity, visibility, and protection through the Sun’s revealing power.
Obscuring afflictions framed as ‘darkness/covering’ (fear, confusion, unseen harm; also eye/vision metaphors).
Invocation of Sūrya’s revealing power to ‘uncover’ and dislodge the affliction; replaces tamas with jyotis.
Tamas reduction; support of tejas and sattva; aligns with dinacaryā/dawn light for circadian steadiness.
Seasonal low mood, brain-fog, anxiety about hidden threats; light exposure for alertness/circadian regulation.
shantika
Concealment-based danger (tamas as covering; covert hostility/sorcery in Atharvanic imagination).
Uncover and expel hidden harm; establish protective visibility and truth in the household/person.
Apotropaic proclamation + cosmic identification: ‘light presses upon darkness’ (counter-agent substitution) and ‘making manifest’ (vi-akhyat) as ritual unveiling.
Night-terrors, secrecy, deception, unseen contagion/impurity (conceptual).
With a vast ‘banner/signal’ (ketu) the god comes forth, uncovering; light presses against and dispels darkness. The heavenly fair-winged hero (solar bird) makes all worlds manifest as Aditi’s son.
Clarity arises when the mind’s ‘covering’ (tamas as āvaraṇa) is lifted; attention (ketu as signal) turns inward confusion into discernment. The ‘solar bird’ is the swift faculty of insight that surveys one’s whole inner landscape.
Revelation is protective: what is seen clearly loses its power to harm. Order and safety depend on the regular triumph of illumination over concealment.
‘Uncovering’ practice: observe where the mind hides fear; invite inner light to disclose it without struggle.
ājñā (clarity/seeing) and maṇipūra (tejas)
Sūrya-bhedana (gentle, if appropriate) or simple dawn deep breathing facing east.
A radiant banner rising in the brow/heart, pushing out a dark veil.
Alert, lucid witnessing (sākṣibhāva).
Chant slowly at sunrise; after each recitation pause and ‘look’ for what becomes newly visible—name it, then release it into the light.
Vedic-style with udātta prominence on key nouns (ketúnā, jyótiḥ, suparṇáḥ) per śākhā tradition; keep a clear rise on udātta and gentle fall on svarita.
Lean on contrasts: TAMO (lower) → JYOTIS (brighter, slightly lifted). Maintain pāda breaks after āgan / aśrait.
Keep retroflex in bṛhatā (bṛ-), not ‘bir’, suparṇaḥ: clear ‘ṇ’, tamo’bhi: do not insert extra vowel; light avagraha glide
Clear, bright, forward-projected (dawn tone).
Use as ‘unveiling’ charm: recite while opening shutters/door or while turning the face to first sunlight.
9
When you suspect hidden problems (miscommunication, deceit, unclear symptoms) or feel mentally ‘clouded’.
At dawn; before confronting an issue; after nightmares or anxious rumination.
Greater clarity, reduced fear, a felt sense of protection through ‘visibility’.
Not a substitute for medical/legal evaluation; if anxiety is severe, seek professional help.
Sandhi resolution (padapāṭha-style): उत् | केतुना | बृहता | देवः | आगन् | अपावृक् | तमः | अभि | ज्योतिः | अश्रैत् || दिव्यः | सुपर्णः | सः | वीरः | व्यख्यत् | अदितेः | पुत्रः | भुवनानि | विश्वा । Key sandhi: (1) तमोऽभि = तमः + अभि (visarga → o’ before vowel). (2) व्यऽख्यद् = वि + अख्यत् (upasarga वि + a- initial; written with avagraha; final -त् may appear as -द् in saṃhitā before voiced sound/pause).
