Agni
Gāyatrī
ఋగ్వేదం 1.13 ఒక సంక్షిప్త ఆహ్వాన స్తోత్రం; ఇందులో అగ్నిని హోతృగా, దూతగా ప్రజ్వలింపజేసి, ఆయన దేవతలను యజ్ఞానికి తీసుకురావాలని, ఆహుతి ఫలప్రదంగా చేయాలని ప్రార్థిస్తారు. మంత్రాలు ఒక కర్మకాండ ‘పేర్ల పిలుపు’లా సాగుతూ—రాత్రి, ఉషస్సు (ప్రభాతం) సహా ప్రధాన దైవశక్తులను బర్హిస్‌పై కూర్చొని భాగస్వామ్యం చేయమని ఆహ్వానించి—చివరికి ‘స్వాహా’తో సిద్ధమైన గృహ్య యజ్ఞంలో దేవతలు సమవేతమై యజమానుని బలపరచాలని కోరుతూ ముగుస్తాయి.

सुसमिद्धो न आ वह देवाँ अग्ने हविष्मते । होतः पावक यक्षि च ॥
అగ్నీ, సుసమిద్ధుడై, హవిష్మతే కోసం దేవులను మా వద్దకు తీసుకురా. హోతః, పావకా, యజ్ (యజ్ఞక్రియ) చేయి; (అంతరంలో) స్వీకరించు కూడా.

मधुमन्तं तनूनपाद्यज्ञं देवेषु नः कवे । अद्या कृणुहि वीतये ॥
హే తనూనపాత్, హే కవే! దేవుల మధ్య మా యజ్ఞాన్ని మధుమయంగా చేయుము; నేడు దానిని ‘వీతయే’—దేవుల ఆనందకరమైన ఆగమనం మరియు ఆస్వాదనార్థం—సన్నద్ధం చేయుము.

नराशंसमिह प्रियमस्मिन्यज्ञ उप ह्वये । मधुजिह्वं हविष्कृतम् ॥
నరాశంసుడు—ప్రియుడు—ఇక్కడ ఈ యజ్ఞానికి నేను ఆహ్వానిస్తున్నాను; మధుజిహ్వుడు, హవిష్కృత్—హవిస్సును సిద్ధం చేసేవాడు—అతనిని పిలుస్తున్నాను.

अग्ने सुखतमे रथे देवाँ ईळित आ वह । असि होता मनुर्हितः ॥
హే అగ్నీ, అత్యంత సుఖదాయకమైన రథంపై—స్తుత్యుడవైన నీవు—దేవులను ఇక్కడికి తీసుకురా; నీవు మనువిచే స్థాపితుడైన హోతృవు.

स्तृणीत बर्हिरानुषग्घृतपृष्ठं मनीषिणः । यत्रामृतस्य चक्षणम् ॥
మనీషులారా, నెయ్యి పూసిన పృష్ఠముగల (ఘృతపృష్టం) బర్హిసును క్రమంగా పరచండి—అక్కడే అమృత దర్శనం (చక్షణం) కలుగుతుంది.

वि श्रयन्तामृतावृधो द्वारो देवीरसश्चतः । अद्या नूनं च यष्टवे ॥
ఋతాన్ని వృద్ధి చేసే, అచ్యుతమైన దివ్య ద్వార-దేవతలు నాలుగు వైపులా విస్తరించి తెరచుకోనివ్వండి—ఈ రోజు, ఇప్పుడే, యజ్ఞంలో యష్టవే (అర్పణార్థం) కోసం.

नक्तोषासा सुपेशसास्मिन्यज्ञ उप ह्वये । इदं नो बर्हिरासदे ॥
సుందరరూపిణి రాత్రి మరియు ఉషస్సును ఈ యజ్ఞానికి సమీపంగా నేను ఆహ్వానిస్తున్నాను; మా ఈ బర్హిసుపై ఆసీనులగుదురు.
Mantra 8
ता सुजिह्वा उप ह्वये होतारा दैव्या कवी । यज्ञं नो यक्षतामिमम् ॥
ఆ రెండు సుజిహ్వా (శుభ్రజిహ్వ)లను నేను సమీపానికి ఆహ్వానిస్తున్నాను—దైవీయ ఇద్దరు హోతృలు, కవి (ఋషి-ప్రజ్ఞావంతులు); వారు మనకొరకు ఈ యజ్ఞాన్ని యజించుగాక.

इळा सरस्वती मही तिस्रो देवीर्मयोभुवः । बर्हिः सीदन्त्वस्रिधः ॥
ఇళా, సరస్వతీ, మహీ—ఈ ముగ్గురు మయోభువః (ఆనందదాయినీ) దేవీలు; వారు అస్రిధః (అక్షతులు, నిర్దోషులు)గా బర్హిస్‌పై ఆసీనులగుదురు గాక.

इह त्वष्टारमग्रियं विश्वरूपमुप ह्वये । अस्माकमस्तु केवलः ॥
ఇక్కడ నేను త్వష్టృను—అగ్రియ (అగ్రగణ్యుడు), విశ్వరూపం—సమీపానికి ఆహ్వానిస్తున్నాను; ఆయన మనకు కేవలః (పూర్తిగా) మనవాడై ఉండుగాక.

अव सृजा वनस्पते देव देवेभ्यो हविः । प्र दातुरस्तु चेतनम् ॥
ఓ వనస్పతే (వృక్షాధిపతీ), దేవుల కొరకు హవిస్సును విడిచిపెట్టి పంపుము. దాత యొక్క చేతనం (చైతన్యం) మేల్కొని ముందుకు సాగుగాక.

स्वाहा यज्ञं कृणोतनेन्द्राय यज्वनो गृहे । तत्र देवाँ उप ह्वये ॥
స్వాహా—యజమాని గృహంలో ఇంద్రునికై యజ్ఞాన్ని సిద్ధం చేయుడి. అక్కడనే నేను దేవులను సమీపముగా ఆహ్వానించుచున్నాను.
