ఈ సంక్షిప్త భైషజ్య సూక్తం క్షయకరమైన అపచితి అనే వ్యాధిని తన ఆసనస్థానంనుండి “ఎగిరిపోతూ” దూరంగా పంపి, పునరుద్ధరణకు సూర్య–చంద్ర ఔషధబలాన్ని ప్రతిబలంగా స్థాపిస్తుంది. ఇది (1) వ్యాధిని తరిమివేసే స్పష్టమైన రూపకాలతో (పక్షిలా వ్యాధిని బయటకు తోలడం), (2) పునరావృతం కాకుండా అనేక వ్యాధికారక శక్తులను పేరుపెట్టి దారి మళ్లించి తరిమివేయడం ద్వారా, (3) కర్మఫలసిద్ధిని నిర్ధారించే ఆహుతి-సూత్రంతో ఆ చర్యను ముద్రవేసి కార్యసాధన చేస్తుంది.

भैषज्यम्। अप॑चितः॒ प्र प॑तत सुप॒र्णो व॑स॒तेरि॑व । सूर्यः॑ कृ॒णोतु॑ भेष॒जं च॒न्द्रमा॒ वोऽपो॑च्छतु
భేషజం! క్షయకరమైన ‘అపచిత్’ రోగం తన నివాసం నుండి సుపర్ణ పక్షిలా ఎగిరి దూరంగా పోవుగాక. సూర్యుడు ఈ ఔషధాన్ని సిద్ధం చేయుగాక; చంద్రుడు దీనిని మీ నుండి తొలగించి శుద్ధి చేయుగాక.

एन्येका॒ श्येन्येका॑ कृ॒ष्णैका॒ रोहि॑णी॒ द्वे। सर्वा॑सामग्रभं॒ नामावी॑रघ्नी॒रपे॑तन
ఒకటి ‘ఏణీ’, ఒకటి ‘శ్యేనీ’, ఒకటి ‘కృష్ణా’, ఇంకా రెండు ‘రోహిణీ’. వాటి అన్నిటి పేర్లను నేను పట్టుకున్నాను—వీరులకు హాని చేయనివి—దూరంగా పోండి, నిష్క్రమించండి!

अ॒सूति॑का रामाय॒ण्यऽप॒चित् प्र प॑तिष्यति । ग्लरि॒तः प्र प॑तिष्यति॒ स ग॑लु॒न्तो न॑शिष्यति
‘అసూతికా’, ‘రామాయణీ’—ఈ ‘అపచిత్’ క్షయరోగం—ఎగిరి దూరంగా పోతుంది. ‘గ్లరిత’ కూడా ఎగిరి దూరంగా పోతుంది; దానిలో ‘గలున్తో’ (గాలున్త) ఇక్కడ మిగలదు.

वी॒हि स्वामाहु॑तिं जुषा॒णो मन॑सा॒ स्वाहा॒ मन॑सा॒ यदि॒दं जु॒होमि॑
రా, నీ స్వంత ఆహుతిని ఇక్కడికి మోసుకొనిరా; దానిలో ఆనందిస్తూ. మనస్సుతో—స్వాహా!—మనస్సుతో, నేను ఇక్కడ జుహోమి చేసే ఈ అర్పణం.
Frequently Asked Questions
Apaciti is a personified wasting or consuming sickness. The hymn treats it as an agent that can be commanded to depart from its ‘dwelling’ in the patient.
They represent complementary cosmic medicines: the Sun as restoring, vitalizing power and the Moon as cleansing, cooling removal of affliction. Together they enact both expulsion and recovery.
It functions as a ritual seal: the offering is mentally and verbally confirmed as accepted, so the healing action is ‘made effective’ and stabilized against return of the illness.
