Outer meaning

The bull, wide-seeing seer, stands above heaven and makes the luminous realms blaze. The king passes beyond the filter with a roaring sound; the seers with human vision milk out the heavenly nectar.

Inner meaning

Soma as ‘Bull’ and ‘Seer’ rises to the summit of consciousness (‘above heaven’): the delight-essence becomes a sovereign power that reveals the higher luminous worlds (rocanā). As ‘King’, it passes beyond the filter—meaning it completes purification and moves into a freer, supramental-like clarity where the current no longer struggles with mixture. Its ‘roar’ is the powerful vibration of realization. Then the nṛcakṣasaḥ—seers who can translate divine seeing into human understanding—‘milk’ the nectar of heaven: they draw down bliss and luminous knowledge into the embodied mind for use in life.

Universal truth

When delight is fully purified, it becomes sovereign and visionary, unveiling higher planes of light; then the awakened human intelligence can draw that nectar into daily consciousness as sustaining wisdom and joy.

Themes

Soma as King, Heavenly light, Nectar extraction, Purification-as-ascent

Other hymns
RV 9.85.10 (continuation likely praising Soma’s ascent), RV 9.2 (Soma as king, purifier), RV 9.96.8-10 (heavenly nectar, seers drawing it)

Family tradition

Ninth Maṇḍala: contemplative seers of Soma as a rising, kingly, visionary power unveiling rocanā (luminous worlds).

Significance

The verse depicts the culmination of purification: Soma becomes sovereign vision, and the human seer learns to ‘milk’ heaven—bringing down bliss and light into embodied life.
