Sukta 9.62
यास्ते धारा मधुश्चुतोऽसृग्रमिन्द ऊतये । ताभिः पवित्रमासदः ॥
yā́s te dhā́rā madhuścúto ’sṛgram inda ūtáye | tā́bhiḥ pavítram ā́sadaḥ ||
Your sweet-dripping streams, O Indu, have been released for our help; by them you sit on the purifier (filter).
The released streams (dhārāḥ) of Soma are currents of delight that carry a sweet truth (madhu-ścutaḥ). They descend for protection and guidance (ūtaye): delight is a safeguard because it harmonizes and illumines. By these streams Soma ‘takes his seat’ on the pavitra—symbol of discriminating truth that filters mixed movements; delight becomes stable and effective only when established upon inner purification and right discernment.
Help comes as a sweetened flow of consciousness when our joy is filtered through truth; unpurified delight is unstable, but delight seated on discernment protects and guides.
protective Soma, sweet streams, establishment in purification, guided flow
Soma hymns as experiential reports of how delight ‘flows’ once purification is active; emphasis on pavitra as inner discernment.
The seer points to a key yogic law: the descent of sweetness must be seated on purification; otherwise it disperses or intoxicates.
He flows as the delight that sustains the gods and protects the sacrificer; he is the circulating essence between worlds.
Sweet current of Ananda that, filtered by truth, becomes a protective guidance-force.
Pavamāna chanting while Soma streams are filtered through the pavitra into the vessel

Flowing and liquid; repeated ‘dh’ sounds mimic streaming.
Induces a felt sense of inner ‘flow’ and settling; good for calming and clarifying.
Soma streams run for the sacrificer’s aid and settle on the filter; inwardly: sweet currents of delight become instruments of protection when established in discrimination (pavitra).
At the moment of release/flow of Soma through the filter
Filtration (pavana), collection, and preparation for offering
Use when seeking emotional regulation: invite sweetness to flow, but ‘seat it’ on inner discernment before acting or speaking.
dhārā: from √dhṛ ‘hold’ → ‘that which is held/continuous stream’; madhu-ścuta: madhu ‘honey’ + √cyut ‘drip, trickle’; ūti: ‘help, protection’; ā-sad: ‘sit down upon’. Symbolic justification: dhārā as ‘held continuity’ supports sustained inner flow; ūti frames Soma as protective guidance, not mere drink.
ūti (divine help as guidance), ṛta as right channeling through pavitra, ananda as madhu
The purifier symbolizes ṛta’s selective order—only truth-aligned currents pass cleanly.
Madhu is not mere pleasure but truth-sweetness when filtered.
Release of streams after clearing obstruction mirrors the emergence of order from concealed potential.
Integral-Vedic: Ananda becomes effective power when founded on truth (satya) and order (ṛta).
Streams = pranic-mental currents; honey = sweetness of true experience; filter = discriminating buddhi/intuitive truth-sense.
Let sweetness flow for protection: receive Ananda as a current, then rest it on the ‘filter’ of truth-discrimination.
Anāhata (sweetness) stabilized by Ājñā (discernment)
Soft inhalation imagining ‘streams’ descending; exhale through the ‘filter’—release thoughts that are mixed or restless.
Quiet flow with vigilant clarity
If sweetness arises, do not cling; let it stream. Ask inwardly for the pavitra—what in me is mixed? Allow the flow to clarify it, then sit in the settled help (ūti).
Gāyatrī accents; allow a gentle rise on madhuścutaḥ and a settling cadence on pavitram āsadaḥ. Exact svara needs pada-svara source.
Chant as a ‘flow’: avoid hard stops mid-pāda; keep continuity through dhārā…madhuścutaḥ.
yās te: keep yās long ‘ā’, dhārā: long ‘ā’ in both syllables, madhuścutaḥ: ‘ścu’ cluster clear; visarga light, asṛgram: vocalic ṛ; ‘gr’ cluster crisp, indo: keep ‘in’ nasal, ‘do’ open, ūtaye: long ‘ū’, pavitram: ‘vi’ short, ‘tr’ crisp, āsadaḥ: long ‘ā’; final visarga soft
Liquid, soothing, with clear articulation of clusters.
