Outer meaning

The verse praises the immense power of Indra and Agni together, calling them most mighty in onset/attack. It says they have one begetter and are twin brothers with one mother, allied in a shared work.

Inner meaning

Indra (illumined Mind) and Agni (divine Will) are two inseparable powers of the sadhana. Their “one begetter” is the One Divine Consciousness (Satya/Brahman) from which both will and knowledge arise; their “one mother” is the universal Nature (Prakṛti/Aditi) in which they act. As “twins,” they must cooperate: Agni kindles aspiration and right action; Indra opens the mind to the descending light and breaks the Coverer. The mantra teaches that inner progress requires the unified working of will-force and illumined intelligence, not one without the other.

Universal truth

Effective transformation comes when aspiration/action (will) and discernment/illumination (mind) act as a single coordinated power rooted in one Source; divided faculties waste force, united faculties accomplish the Work.

Family tradition

Mandala 6 is predominantly the Bharadvāja family collection, marked by practical spiritual psychology: invoking powers (Agni/Indra) as inner instruments for victory over obstruction.

Significance

Bharadvāja’s vision often emphasizes the coordinated working of divine powers in the inner yajña: aspiration, illumination, and right force aligned to ṛta (truth-order).

Epithets

Cosmic role

Joint guardians and executors of the sacrifice: Agni establishes the offering and the upward call; Indra brings the victorious descent of light and power, breaking the powers of obstruction.

Inner power

Synergy of aspiration (Agni) and illumination (Indra): will that persists + mind that perceives truth; together they create decisive breakthroughs in consciousness.

Where it is used

Soma-yajña contexts where Indra and Agni are jointly invoked (Indrāgnī-śastra/related offerings)
