Agni is asked to bring a group of deities—Aryaman, Varuna, Mitra, Indra-Vishnu, the Maruts, the Ashvins—carrying them on good steeds and chariot to the people who offer well.
The awakened Will (Agni) is invoked as the carrier of a full inner assembly: harmonizing powers (Mitra), vast law and purity (Varuṇa), right relation and aspiration (Aryaman), illumined force and wide stride (Indra-Viṣṇu), storm-dynamisms that purify and energize (Maruts), and twin healers/rapid helpers (Aśvins). The seeker asks Agni to ‘bring’ these faculties into the human system (jana) that offers well—i.e., that can sincerely present its energies and intentions to transformation.
Integral growth calls not for one power alone but for a coordinated descent/arrival of multiple divine faculties, carried by a central disciplined will.
invitation of deities, integration of powers, right offering (su-havis)
Gautama hymns frequently show Agni as organizer who convenes the ‘council’ of powers needed for the sacrifice’s success.
The seer’s integrality: spiritual life is a coordinated arrival of many divine functions, not an isolated experience.
Summoner and conveyor: establishes the seat where the gods can come and act; links invocation to manifestation.
Central will that can ‘host’ and coordinate multiple higher powers in the psyche.

4 × ~11
Ceremonial and expansive; list-invocation cadence with a concluding imperative.
Creates a sense of gathering and descent; stabilizes attention while invoking breadth.
Āvāhana (inviting) of multiple deities through Agni in havis offerings; broadly applicable in communal sacrifices.
When inviting multiple deities to the yajña-seat after establishing Agni
Recitation during offerings; calling devas to ‘come’ via Agni’s conveyance
Use as an ‘integral invocation’ before meditation: call harmony, purity, force, wideness, healing, and dynamic courage into one sitting.
vaha (imperative √vah ‘to carry’; PIE *weǵh-) underlies the core ritual-psychological act: conveyance of powers. Mitra/Varuna encode complementary aspects of ṛta: relation and vast law. su- compounds (su-aśva, su-ratha, su-rādhā) foreground ‘right/good’ as alignment with ṛta rather than material success.
collective divine powers (deva-gaṇa), ṛta as harmony + law, successful realization (rādh-)
The named deities represent functions that uphold ṛta in different domains (harmony, law, force, wideness, dynamism, healing).
Truth becomes effective when the whole system is aligned—ethical purity (Varuṇa) and concord (Mitra) support illumination (Indra).
Cosmic order is maintained by coordinated gods; the human participates by hosting them through yajña.
Integral-psychological synthesis: many deva-powers as aspects of one evolving consciousness.
dawn/twilight (Aśvins)
unspecified
Chariot = embodied system; horses = energies; storm = purifying upheaval; twins = balancing, healing forces in transitions.
Invoke a ‘council of inner powers’: harmony (Mitra), purity/vastness (Varuṇa), right aspiration (Aryaman), illumined force (Indra), wideness (Viṣṇu), dynamic courage (Maruts), healing integration (Aśvins).
anahata (harmonizing) with sahasrara (descent of higher powers)
Alternate-nostril breathing (nāḍī-śodhana) to symbolically ‘bring together’ powers into one channel.
Widened, supported, integrated.
After centering, name each power inwardly and feel it take its place. End with ‘Agni, carry them into my offering’—meaning: let will make these qualities operative in thought, speech, action.
Observe Saṃhitā accents; the deity list benefits from steady pitch discipline to avoid sing-song drift.
Slightly mark the caesura after deity clusters; keep the imperative ‘vaha’ clear and strong.
aryamaṇam: retroflex ṇ., varuṇam: retroflex ṇ, short u., mitram: crisp tr cluster., indrāviṣṇū: long ā, retroflex ṣṇ in viṣṇu., aśvinā: palatal ś, short i.
Steady, inviting, resonant (as if calling allies).
