Outer meaning

As the Ribhus (divine craftsmen) fashion a new chariot, so the hymn asks the bright Soma-streams to set a clear sign (keta) for guidance and to purify themselves in the flood (arṇas).

Inner meaning

The “new chariot” is the renewed inner vehicle—mind-life-body harmonized for the soul’s journey. The Ribhus symbolize the subtle powers of perfection that refashion our instruments. “Keta” is the inner signal of discernment/illumination that indicates the right direction of the yoga. The “bright ones” are the purified Soma currents (luminous delight-force) that must clarify themselves by a strong outpouring (arṇas) so consciousness becomes fit, straight, and swift for the true path.

Universal truth

Spiritual progress requires both a re-making of the inner instruments and a clear guiding light of discernment; purification is not suppression but a luminous outflow that washes obscurity and aligns the being with truth.

Themes

renewal of the instrument, purification by the flood, revelatory sign (ketu)

RV 9.21 (Soma Pavamāna hymn context), RV 9.22 (adjacent Soma Pavamāna hymn context)

Significance

In Book 9, the seer-voices are often collective or layered; the spiritual import is the vision of Soma as a conscious, purifying delight that refashions the being—here expressed through the Ribhu-symbol of perfected workmanship.

Devata
Soma Pavamāna (with allusion to the Ribhus)
Epithets
pavamāna (self-purifying), śukra (bright), pūta (purified)
Related deities
Agni (inner will that receives Soma), Indra (illumined mind strengthened by Soma), Ribhus (powers of perfection)

Cosmic role

Soma is the flowing essence that supports gods and worlds—delight and clarity that makes consciousness fit for truth and power.

Inner power

Ananda-force that clarifies mind and nerves, enabling right indication (keta) and a remade instrument for the soul’s movement.

Where it is used

Soma pressing and purification (pavamāna recitations)
