Sukta 4.36
śréṣṭhaṃ vaḥ péśo ádhi dhāyi darśatáṃ stómō vājā ṛbhavas táṃ jujuṣṭana | dhī́rāso hí sthā́ kaváyo vipaścítas tā́n va enā́ bráhmaṇā vedayāmasi ||
Acceptance formula: offering the stoma/brahman as a visible 'form' to be enjoyed by the deities; supports the sacrificial exchange.
Brahman as formative speech-power, Manifestation (darśata) of inner beauty, Poetic vision (vipra/vipaścit) as knowledge
The Ṛbhus embody Ṛta as craftsmanship: order is achieved by perfecting the form of action and knowledge.
Truth becomes ‘darśata’—experientially seen—through brahman (mantric truth-speech).
Manifestation through shaping: the world and the inner being are crafted into luminous forms.
Proto-Vedāntic and Yogic reading (Aurobindonian): mantra as conscious force; gods as powers of consciousness.
Visibility = awakening of inner sight; beauty/form = harmonized configuration of mind and life under higher guidance.
‘Make the mantra visible’: feel the hymn as a formed light-structure in the mind, inviting the power of perfection to inhabit it.
vishuddha
Gentle ujjayi or slow nasal breathing synchronized to pādas (inhale 2 pādas, exhale 2 pādas).
Collected, lucid, receptive (mantric presence).
Before chanting, set an intention: refine speech, thought, and action. After chanting, sit 3–5 minutes sensing a ‘crafted clarity’ descending into mind and heart.
Mixed udatta/anudatta/svarita as per Śākala tradition; emphasize lexical udattas on key invocatives (vāja, ṛbhavaḥ) and on brahmaṇā.
Keep a gentle lift on udātta syllables; avoid over-stressing consonants; let the cadence land firmly at pāda ends (|).
ṛbhavas: vocalic ṛ (as in ‘ri’ but shorter, retroflex quality), vipaścit: keep ‘śc’ cluster crisp (ś-cit), jujuṣṭana: pronounce repeated ‘ju’ clearly; ṣṭ = retroflex ‘sht’, brahmaṇā: ‘ṇ’ retroflex; long ā at end
Clear, steady, slightly resonant in the chest-throat axis.
