The Sandals Bestowed; Bharata’s Return Toward Ayodhya
tato hṛṣṭo bharadvājo bharataṃ vākyam abravīt | api kṛtyaṃ kṛtaṃ tāta rāmeṇa ca samāgatam ||
Then Bhardwaja asked Bharata in delight, My son, have you accomplished your task? Did you meet Rama?
Dharma is framed as kṛtya—an assigned duty that must be fulfilled responsibly; the sage’s question treats success as the completion of rightful purpose, not personal gain.
At Bharadvāja’s hermitage, the sage questions Bharata about whether his mission has been completed and whether he has met Rāma.
Bharadvāja’s discernment and concern for dharmic outcomes—he measures events by duty fulfilled and truthful meeting/reporting.
