Sukta 9.101
सहस्रधारः पवते समुद्रो वाचमीङ्खयः । सोमः पती रयीणां सखेन्द्रस्य दिवेदिवे ॥
sahásra-dhāraḥ pavate samudró vā́cam īṅkhayáḥ | sómaḥ pátī rayīṇā́ṃ sakhéndrasya divédive ||
Tysiącem strumieni płynie, morze poruszające Słowo; Soma, pan obfitości, jest towarzyszem Indry dzień po dniu.
Soma flows with a thousand streams, like a sea, stirring the Word. Soma, lord of riches, is Indra’s companion day after day.
Purified delight becomes an inexhaustible ocean of currents in the being (sahasradhāraḥ, samudraḥ). This rising ecstasy sets the inner word (vāk) vibrating—awakening mantra, insight, and right expression. As master of plenitudes (rayīṇām patiḥ), Soma continually companions the illumined mind (Indra), sustaining daily progress.
When inner delight becomes abundant and steady, it animates expression and understanding; illumination is not a single event but a daily companionship of clarity and joy.
Abundance, Word-power, Soma-Indra companionship, Oceanic vastness
Soma Pavamāna hymns function as a liturgical-visionary anthology; attribution is often to seer-families rather than single individuals.
The seer-voice here is ‘oceanic’: it records the experience of abundance—Ananda becoming a field that moves speech and mind.
Soma is the universal delight that circulates through worlds and supports the gods; Indra is the luminous governor who acts with Soma’s force.
Ananda as dynamic vibration that awakens mantric speech and stabilizes illumination over time.
Pavamāna chants during Soma filtration and offering

4 x ~12 syllables
Surging, wave-like; suitable to ‘samudra’ and ‘thousand streams’.
Induces breadth and uplift; encourages a felt sense of inner vastness and rhythmic pulsing of speech-energy.
Used to magnify Soma’s abundance and his role in energizing mantra (vāc) and empowering Indra; fits the Soma rite’s emphasis on flowing streams and inspired recitation.
While Soma runs through the woolen filter into vessels
Recitation/chant to accompany the flow and consecration of Soma for Indra
Meditation on ‘oceanic breath’: feel breath as waves; let inner speech become quiet, then arise as true formulation.
sahasra ‘thousand’ (abundance marker); dhārā as stream from √dhṛ; samudra ‘gathering of waters’ (sam- + udra/ud ‘water’ semantic); √īṅkh ‘stir/move’ (onomatopoetic nuance of vibration); rayi- ‘wealth/plenty’ (often spiritual plenitude); sakhā ‘friend/companion’ (relationship term in Vedic reciprocity).
Rayi as plenitude of being, Vāc as effective vibration of truth, Continuity of practice (dive-dive)
The repeated ‘dive-dive’ implies ṛta as steady recurrence—spiritual growth by faithful rhythm.
Vāk stirred by Soma tends toward truth-expression rather than reactive speech.
From the ocean of consciousness, vibration (word) arises—speech as a wave of being.
Psychological symbolism aligned with Aurobindo’s Soma-Ananda interpretation.
day (recurrence)
Vast calm depth (ocean) generating many currents (nāḍīs/energies) that animate speech and illumined thought.
Rest in the inner ocean; allow a thousand currents of joy to rise without scattering; let speech emerge only from that depth.
Ājñā (illumination) with support of Viśuddha (truth-speech)
Slow ‘wave breathing’ (inhale 4–6, exhale 6–8) while sensing a vast inner sea
Oceanic wideness with subtle vibratory clarity.
1) Imagine a calm sea in the heart-mind. 2) Each exhale releases a ‘stream’ of clarity. 3) Listen for the right word (vāk) as a ripple, not as mental strain.
Maintain Vedic accents per recension; keep the long compounds (sahasradhāraḥ, vācamīṅkhayaḥ) evenly articulated without rushing.
Let the cadence swell slightly on ‘samudraḥ’ and relax on ‘dive-dive’ to suggest waves and recurrence.
sahasradhāraḥ: clear ‘dh’ aspirate; long ā, samudraḥ: light ‘dr’ cluster, īṅkhayaḥ: nasal īṅ + kh (aspirate), rayīṇām: long ī, retroflex ṇ
Broad, resonant, wave-like; avoid sharp staccato.
