Sukta 3.4
आ भन्दमाने उषसा उपाके उत स्मयेते तन्वा विरूपे । यथा नो मित्रो वरुणो जुजोषदिन्द्रो मरुत्वाँ उत वा महोभिः ॥
ā́ bhandamāne uṣásā upā́ke utá smayete tanvā́ virū́pe | yáthā no mitró váruṇo jújoṣad índro marútvāṃ utá vā máho-bhiḥ ||
Gdy dwie Jutrzenki się zbliżają, uśmiechając się w swoich różniących się formach, niech Mitra i Waruna znajdą w nas upodobanie; oraz Indra z Marutami również, przez swoje wielkie moce.
Transitional invocation near dawn/early rite: aligns the opening of light (Uṣas) with consent of law (Mitra-Varuṇa) and dynamic power (Indra-Maruts) for successful sacrifice.
consent/acceptance (juṣ), harmonizing law and force, threshold transformation (upāke)
Mitra-Varuṇa embody ṛta; the dawn’s coming is the daily sign of ṛta’s unfailing rhythm.
Delight of the gods indicates consent of truth-powers to inhabit the seeker’s life.
Daily creation: light re-manifests, order re-establishes, force renews—mirroring inner renewal.
Yogic cosmology of complementary powers: illumination (Uṣas), law (Ādityas), force (Indra/Maruts).
dawn
Dawn = awakening of consciousness; winds/storm = cleansing energies; sovereign sky-law = inner truth-discipline.
Invite a twofold dawn: clarity in thought and gladness in life-force; then call truth-law and courageous energy to sustain the day.
Ājñā (dawn clarity) with support from anāhata (Mitra harmony) and maṇipūra (Indra force).
Gentle sunrise breathing: inhale 4–6 counts ‘receiving dawn’; exhale 6–8 counts ‘spreading light’; then 3 stronger breaths to invoke Indra-Maruts’ clearing force.
Bright, uplifted, harmonized and energized.
At daybreak, feel the first light in the brow; affirm truth and right relation; then summon decisive will to break inertia and proceed in ṛta.
Vedic tri-svara; keep the approach cadence gentle in the first half (uṣasau…), then firmer on Indra-Marutvān.
Mark the dual forms clearly (uṣasā/uṣasau); do not rush sandhi in ‘indro marutvān’.
uṣasā/upāke: ṣ as retroflex sibilant; keep vowels open, virūpe: long ū; clear v-r cluster, jujoṣat: palatal j; keep reduplication audible, marutvān: nasalized ān; light final n
Softly radiant at the start, then more resonant and strong for Indra-Maruts.
