FAQs

The verse exemplifies the principle of dana (charitable giving) and tyaga (renunciation) as essential aspects of dharma. Before entering the forest, Rama instructs Sita to distribute wealth to servants and brahmins, demonstrating that righteous departure requires settling obligations and practicing generosity. This reflects the Hindu ideal that one should not hoard wealth when embarking on a spiritual journey.

Rama is giving final instructions to Sita before their departure to the forest. He directs her to distribute their possessions, ornaments, clothing, recreational items, furniture, and vehicles, to their attendants and then to brahmins, ensuring that their material wealth is properly distributed before they embrace the ascetic life of vanavasa.

The verse emphasizes the virtue of detachment and generosity. Rama demonstrates that true dharma requires letting go of material attachments and ensuring that wealth serves others. The instruction to give to brahmins also reflects respect for the priestly class and the sacred duty of supporting those who preserve spiritual knowledge.
