अष्टादशः सर्गः · Kaikeyī Discloses the Boons: Exile to Daṇḍaka and Bharata’s Consecration
तदपूर्वं नरपतेर्दृष्ट्वा रूपं भयावहम् ।
रामोऽपि भयमापन्नः पदा स्पृष्ट्वेव पन्नगम् ॥४॥
tad apūrvaṁ narapater dṛṣṭvā rūpaṁ bhayāvaham |
rāmo ’pi bhayam āpannaḥ padā spṛṣṭveva pannagam ||4||
Widząc swego ojca króla w tym przerażającym, niespotykanym stanie, nawet Rama został ogarnięty lękiem, jakby nastąpił na węża.
Never before did Rama see such frightful appearance of his father. He was seized with fear as if he trampled a serpent.
The verse foregrounds filial dharma: a son’s alertness and concern when a parent is in distress, even when the son is otherwise fearless and steady.
Rāma comes to Daśaratha and is shocked to see the king’s dreadful, altered appearance caused by inner turmoil.
Rāma’s sensitivity and dutiful concern—his immediate emotional response to his father’s suffering.
