Neither did I ever desire the kingdom nor did I ever consult my mother in this regard and I am not even aware of the consecration that was planned by the king for I was away in a distant country with Satrughna.

Power gained through adharma is to be refused; innocence must be stated plainly, and rightful succession upheld.

FAQs

Satya (truthfulness) and moral clarity: Bharata rejects unjust power and states facts to clear himself of complicity.

Bharata responds to Kausalyā’s suspicion by asserting he neither sought the throne nor knew about the planned coronation, as he was away with Śatrughna.

Bharata’s integrity—absence of ambition and commitment to truth even when under accusation.
