Kaikeyī’s Protest
तत्र जातं बहु द्रव्यं धनधान्यमजाविकम्।ततो वृणीष्व कैकेयि यद्यत्त्वं मनसेच्छसि।।।।
tatra jātaṃ bahu dravyaṃ dhana-dhānyam ajāvikam | tato vṛṇīṣva kaikeyi yad yat tvaṃ manasā icchasi ||
Di sana terhasil harta yang melimpah—kekayaan, biji-bijian, serta ternakan kambing dan biri-biri. Maka, wahai Kaikeyī, pilihlah daripadanya apa sahaja yang diingini hatimu.
There wealth and foodgrains, sheep and goats and many things are produced. O Kaikeyi, ask whichever of these you wish.
A ruler’s dharma includes generosity and the fair distribution of prosperity; wealth is portrayed as something that can be granted responsibly.
Daśaratha invites Kaikeyī to state what she wants, offering material and economic abundance as possible gifts.
Dāna (generosity): the king’s willingness to give—though the coming request will shift the issue from wealth to ethical obligation and truth.
