pū́rvo agníṣ ṭvā tapatu śáṃ purástāc cháṃ paścā́t tapatu gārhapatyáḥ | dakṣiṇāgníṣ ṭe tapatu śárma vármóttarató madhyató antárikṣād díśo-díśo agne pári pāhi ghórāt
Let the eastern Agni warm thee for welfare from the front; for welfare from behind let the Gārhapatya warm thee. Let the southern fire warm thee—shelter, armor—from the north, from the midst, from the mid-air; from every quarter, O Agni, guard thou round about from the terrible.
