Vasiṣṭha
Dyāvāpṛthivī (Heaven and Earth)

This brief hymn of Vasiṣṭha invokes Dyāvā-Pṛthivī—Heaven and Earth—together as the vast divine Parents who uphold Ṛta (cosmic order). It asks them to take the foremost place in the sacrifice, to come with the “divine peoples” (supporting powers), and to bestow abundant treasures and lasting well-being upon the worshippers.

Mantra 1
प्र द्यावा यज्ञैः पृथिवी नमोभिः सबाध ईळे बृहती यजत्रे । ते चिद्धि पूर्वे कवयो गृणन्तः पुरो मही दधिरे देवपुत्रे ॥
यज्ञ के सारे आसमान और प्रणाम के साथ धरती को बुलाते हैं। दोनों को एक साथ बुलाते हैं, बिना किसी भेद के। यह दोनों बहुत बड़े हैं और यज्ञ के लायक हैं। पुराने रिशि भी इन दोनों की स्तुति करते थे और इन्हें आगे रखते थे। यह दोनों देवताओं से पैदा हुए हैं।

प्र पूर्वजे पितरा नव्यसीभिर्गीर्भिः कृणुध्वं सदने ऋतस्य । आ नो द्यावापृथिवी दैव्येन जनेन यातं महि वां वरूथम् ॥
हे पिता-पुरुष जो पहले पैदा हुए, नए-नए शब्दों से अपना आशियाना बनाओ। आसमान और धरती, तुम दोनों देवता लोगों के साथ हमारे पास आओ। तुम्हारी पंख बहुत बड़ी है जो हमारे आस-पास फैली है।

उतो हि वां रत्नधेयानि सन्ति पुरूणि द्यावापृथिवी सुदासे । अस्मे धत्तं यदसदस्कृधोयु यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः ॥
आसमान और धरती, तुम्हारे पास बहुत सारे खज़ाने हैं जो देने वाले को मिलते हैं। जो भी हमारे अंदर कमी है, वो भर दो। तुम कभी हाथ नहीं झुकाते। हमेशा अपनी शांति से हमारे निगरानी करते रहो।
