काण्ड 9 अथर्ववेद का संक्षिप्त किन्तु विचार-गम्भीर भाग है, जिसमें गृह्य-यज्ञ के प्रयोजन—समृद्धि, पशुधन, रक्षा और आरोग्य—को ऋत और काल जैसे ब्रह्माण्डीय सिद्धान्तों पर प्रतिष्ठित किया गया है। इसके सूक्त तात्कालिक मन्त्र-प्रयोग से आगे बढ़कर चिन्तनशील विश्व-व्याख्या की ओर जाते हैं; विशेषतः रोहित (लाल सूर्य) के सूक्त, जो सौर-शक्ति को जीवन का पोषक, जगत् का नियामक और देश-काल को सुव्यवस्थित करने वाली सत्ता के रूप में निरूपित करते हैं। इस दार्शनिक प्रवाह के साथ सोम-सम्बन्धी सामग्री और यज्ञ की प्रभावकारिता का प्रतिपादन भी मिलता है, जो अन्तर्दृष्टि, बल, प्रेरित वाणी और सम्यक् अर्पण को जोड़ते हुए, विधिपूर्वक सम्पन्न यज्ञ से देह-तेज और कल्याण की स्थिरता स्थापित करता है।
