કાંડ ૯ અથર્વવેદનો સંક્ષિપ્ત પરંતુ વિચારની દૃષ્ટિએ ભારવાળો વિભાગ છે. અહીં ગૃહ્યવિધિના હેતુઓ—સમૃદ્ધિ, પશુધન, રક્ષણ, આરોગ્ય—ઋત (વિશ્વવ્યવસ્થા) અને કાળ (સમય) જેવા કોસ્મિક સિદ્ધાંતોમાં આધારિત કરવામાં આવ્યા છે. આ સૂક્તો તાત્કાલિક મંત્રપ્રયોગથી આગળ વધી ચિંતનાત્મક બ્રહ્મચિંતન તરફ જાય છે; ખાસ કરીને રોહિત (લાલ સૂર્ય) વિષયક સૂક્તો સૂર્યશક્તિને જીવનને ધારણ કરનાર, અવકાશ-સમયને ક્રમબદ્ધ કરનાર અને વિધિ સાથે યોગ્ય રીતે સંયોજિત થાય ત્યારે સમૃદ્ધિનું આધાર બનનાર એવી તત્ત્વશક્તિ તરીકે વ્યાખ્યાયિત કરે છે. આ તાત્ત્વિક પ્રવાહની સાથે સોમસંબંધિત સામગ્રી અને યજ્ઞની કાર્યસિદ્ધિ પણ આવે છે—અંતર્દૃષ્ટિ, પ્રેરિત વાણી અને દેહબળને સુવ્યવસ્થિત યજ્ઞ સાથે જોડીને, શાંતિ અને રક્ષણ દ્વારા પ્રાપ્ત લાભોને સ્થિર કરવામાં આવે છે.
