Outer meaning

Adorable Jātavedas—uplifted toward the godhead—sets the offerings in motion in heaven/the luminous realm.

Inner meaning

Agni as Jātavedas is the knower of all births—he knows the origins and right uses of our energies. When consciousness is ‘uplifted toward the godhead’ (devatāti udyatā), the will becomes oriented upward; then Agni impels (airayat) the offerings—our works, breaths, thoughts—into the higher luminous mind (divi). The mantra describes the mechanics of ascent: aspiration rises, and the inner fire carries our formations into a clearer plane where they are transmuted.

Universal truth

When the will is turned toward the highest, the inner fire naturally elevates our actions and thoughts into a more luminous consciousness where they can be purified and empowered.

Themes

ascent, Agni as knower, offering carried upward, heavenly mediation

Other hymns
Rig Veda 8.74.1–4

Significance

A precise inner-yoga statement: ascent happens by uplifted aspiration, and Agni is the carrier-force that moves offerings into the luminous plane.

Devata
Agni (Jātavedas)
Epithets
Jātavedas, Panyāsa (adorable)
Related deities
Bṛhaspati (word/aspiration), Indra (illumined mind), Soma (bliss that crowns ascent)

Cosmic role

Knower and mediator across worlds; transports offerings to the gods; awakens the ‘heaven’ in the human.

Inner power

Discerning will that knows the roots of movements and can redirect them upward into light.

Where it is used

General Agni praise during offering sequences, especially when invoking Agni as carrier to the gods.
