In this Triṣṭubh hymn, Vasiṣṭha calls the Aśvins to arrive swiftly on their chariot and accept the offering, addressing them with the intimacy of a son speaking to his parents. The poet asks for protection of the inner faculties, fertile and unharmed creative power, prosperity in children and lineage, and a god-guided path marked by well-being (svasti). The sukta concludes with a direct plea for treasures, the ripening of seers, and continual safeguarding by the Aśvins’ beneficent presence.

Mantra 1

प्रति वां रथं नृपती जरध्यै हविष्मता मनसा यज्ञियेन । यो वां दूतो न धिष्ण्यावजीगरच्छा सूनुर्न पितरा विवक्मि ॥

Toward your chariot, O lords of men, I set my thought with the offering-mind for your glad receiving. As a messenger to the two firm seats I speed; like a son to his parents I speak out to you.

Mantra 2

अशोच्यग्निः समिधानो अस्मे उपो अदृश्रन्तमसश्चिदन्ताः । अचेति केतुरुषसः पुरस्ताच्छ्रिये दिवो दुहितुर्जायमानः ॥

Agni has shone, kindled in us; even the boundaries of darkness became visible. The sign of Dawn is discerned in front, being born for the glory of the Daughter of Heaven.

Mantra 3

अभि वां नूनमश्विना सुहोता स्तोमैः सिषक्ति नासत्या विवक्वान् । पूर्वीभिर्यातं पथ्याभिरर्वाक्स्वर्विदा वसुमता रथेन ॥

Now the good-offering priest presses toward you with hymns, O Aśvins, O Nāsatyas, speaking forth. Come from of old by the rightful paths, hitherward, with the chariot that finds the Sun-world, rich in plenitude.

Mantra 4

अवोर्वां नूनमश्विना युवाकुर्हुवे यद्वां सुते माध्वी वसूयुः । आ वां वहन्तु स्थविरासो अश्वाः पिबाथो अस्मे सुषुता मधूनि ॥

For your helping power I call you now, O Aśvins, with youthful cry, when the honeyed offering is pressed, desiring plenitude. Let the strong steeds bring you; drink here with us the well-pressed sweetnesses.

Mantra 5

प्राचीमु देवाश्विना धियं मेऽमृध्रां सातये कृतं वसूयुम् । विश्वा अविष्टं वाज आ पुरंधीस्ता नः शक्तं शचीपती शचीभिः ॥

Send forward, O divine Aśvins, my thought—unharmed and straight—for the winning, made eager for plenitude. Guard all our powers of increase in the plenitude of force; then be able for us, O lords of effective energy, by your efficacies.

Mantra 6

अविष्टं धीष्वश्विना न आसु प्रजावद्रेतो अह्रयं नो अस्तु । आ वां तोके तनये तूतुजानाः सुरत्नासो देववीतिं गमेम ॥

O Ashvins, may there be in our inner powers a protected and unharmed creative seed, rich in the force of new becoming. Urged forward toward you in our child and in our growing soul, may we, made opulent with luminous treasures, attain the god-led path of your divine enjoyment and guidance.

Mantra 7

एष स्य वां पूर्वगत्वेव सख्ये निधिर्हितो माध्वी रातो अस्मे । अहेळता मनसा यातमर्वागश्नन्ता हव्यं मानुषीषु विक्षु ॥

This indeed is your ancient treasure laid down in the friendship of your first-coming: the honeyed delight you have granted to us. Come near with a mind that bears no anger, and partake of the offering among the human peoples.

Mantra 8

एकस्मिन्योगे भुरणा समाने परि वां सप्त स्रवतो रथो गात् । न वायन्ति सुभ्वो देवयुक्ता ये वां धूर्षु तरणयो वहन्ति ॥

In one single yoking, in the same movement of power, your chariot goes encompassing the seven streams. The well-founded, god-yoked steeds do not slacken, those swift bearers who carry you on the yoke-poles.

Mantra 9

असश्चता मघवद्भ्यो हि भूतं ये राया मघदेयं जुनन्ति । प्र ये बन्धुं सूनृताभिस्तिरन्ते गव्या पृञ्चन्तो अश्व्या मघानि ॥

Be inseparable from the bounteous, for they are those who by their plenitude set the gift of abundance in motion. They who extend the bond by words of truth and harmony, who mix the largesses—rays of Light and energies of the steed—into the offerings of increase.

नू मे हवमा शृणुतं युवाना यासिष्टं वर्तिरश्विनाविरावत् । धत्तं रत्नानि जरतं च सूरीन्यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः ॥

Now hear my call, O youthful Ashvins; come by the best path, rich in the nourishing plenitude. Place in us the treasures, and keep the seers in their ripening; you—guard us always with your wideness of well-being.
