Sukta 35

Mantra 1

इहोप यात शवसो नपातः सौधन्वना ऋभवो माप भूत । अस्मिन्हि वः सवने रत्नधेयं गमन्त्विन्द्रमनु वो मदासः ॥

Come here, O offspring of Force, O Saudhanvan Ṛbhus; do not withdraw. For in this pressing there is your treasure to be set: let your rapture and gladness go following Indra, moving with him in the right enjoyment.

Mantra 2

आगन्नृभूणामिह रत्नधेयमभूत्सोमस्य सुषुतस्य पीतिः । सुकृत्यया यत्स्वपस्यया चँ एकं विचक्र चमसं चतुर्धा ॥

Here has come the treasure to be set for the Ṛbhus; there is the drinking of the well-pressed Soma. For by right skill and by luminous workmanship they made one chalice into four—multiplying the single vessel of delight into a fourfold capacity.

Mantra 3

व्यकृणोत चमसं चतुर्धा सखे वि शिक्षेत्यब्रवीत । अथैत वाजा अमृतस्य पन्थां गणं देवानामृभवः सुहस्ताः ॥

They fashioned the chalice fourfold; and one said, ‘Friend, learn the skill.’ Then these Vājas found the path of immortality; the Ṛbhus, with good hands, entered the company of the gods.

Mantra 4

किम्मयः स्विच्चमस एष आस यं काव्येन चतुरो विचक्र । अथा सुनुध्वं सवनं मदाय पात ऋभवो मधुनः सोम्यस्य ॥

Of what substance was this chalice, which by inspired artistry you fashioned into four? Now press out the offering for delight; drink, O Ṛbhus, of the honeyed Soma—taste the sweetness of the soul’s essence.

Mantra 5

शच्याकर्त पितरा युवाना शच्याकर्त चमसं देवपानम् । शच्या हरी धनुतरावतष्टेन्द्रवाहावृभवो वाजरत्नाः ॥

By a power of effective skill you made the two Parents young again; by that same skill you made the chalice fit for the gods’ drinking. By that skill you fashioned the two tawny steeds, the bow-swift bearers of Indra—O Ṛbhus, rich in plenitudes and treasures of force.

Mantra 6

यो वः सुनोत्यभिपित्वे अह्नां तीव्रं वाजासः सवनं मदाय । तस्मै रयिमृभवः सर्ववीरमा तक्षत वृषणो मन्दसानाः ॥

Whoever presses for you, O Vājas/Ṛbhus, in the close joining of the days, the strong pressing for delight—upon him fashion a wealth full of all heroic powers. O vigorous ones, rejoicing, carve and set this abundance into his being.

Mantra 7

प्रातः सुतमपिबो हर्यश्व माध्यंदिनं सवनं केवलं ते । समृभुभिः पिबस्व रत्नधेभिः सखीँर्याँ इन्द्र चकृषे सुकृत्या ॥

In the morning you drank the pressed Soma, O Indra of tawny steeds; the midday pressing is wholly yours. Drink together with the Ṛbhus, the treasure-bearers—those friends whom you have made by your right and perfect action.

Mantra 8

ये देवासो अभवता सुकृत्या श्येना इवेदधि दिवि निषेद । ते रत्नं धात शवसो नपातः सौधन्वना अभवतामृतासः ॥

You who by right perfection became gods, like falcons you took your seat upon the heaven. Therefore set the treasure, O offspring of Force, O Saudhanvanas; become for us the deathless powers—establishing in the human the immortal gain.

Mantra 9

यत्तृतीयं सवनं रत्नधेयमकृणुध्वं स्वपस्या सुहस्ताः । तदृभवः परिषिक्तं व एतत्सं मदेभिरिन्द्रियेभिः पिबध्वम् ॥

When you fashioned the third pressing of the Soma, a treasure-bearing outpouring, O skilful workers with good hands and right action—then, O Rbhus, drink of this that has been poured out for you, together with the ecstasies that awaken the indriya-powers (the lordly faculties within).
