Mantra 1

धेनुः प्रत्नस्य काम्यं दुहानान्तः पुत्रश्चरति दक्षिणायाः । आ द्योतनिं वहति शुभ्रयामोषसः स्तोमो अश्विनावजीगः ॥

The Cow of Light, milking out the desirable delight of the ancient Truth, moves within as the child of Dakṣiṇā (the right-discerning offering). She brings the shining illumination; and the chant of Dawn has stirred the Ashvins into swift action.

Mantra 2

सुयुग्वहन्ति प्रति वामृतेनोर्ध्वा भवन्ति पितरेव मेधाः । जरेथामस्मद्वि पणेर्मनीषां युवोरवश्चकृमा यातमर्वाक् ॥

Your well-yoked powers bear you hither in the law of Ṛta; our uplifted understandings rise like the Fathers’ wisdoms. Grow strong for us, and scatter the miser’s cramped thought; we have fashioned your help—come near to us.

Mantra 3

सुयुग्भिरश्वैः सुवृता रथेन दस्राविमं शृणुतं श्लोकमद्रेः । किमङ्ग वां प्रत्यवर्तिं गमिष्ठाहुर्विप्रासो अश्विना पुराजाः ॥

With well-yoked horses and your well-turning chariot, O Wonder-workers, hear this uttered word of the pressing-stone. Why indeed do the inspired seers of old call you ‘the swiftest to return in answer’?

Mantra 4

आ मन्येथामा गतं कच्चिदेवैर्विश्वे जनासो अश्विना हवन्ते । इमा हि वां गोऋजीका मधूनि प्र मित्रासो न ददुरुस्रो अग्रे ॥

Come, perceive and arrive: do not all peoples call you with their eager impulses? For these honeyed sweetnesses of your light-winning are given forth in front, like friendly powers offering at the beginning of the dawn-red glow.

Mantra 5

तिरः पुरू चिदश्विना रजांस्याङ्गूषो वां मघवाना जनेषु । एह यातं पथिभिर्देवयानैर्दस्राविमे वां निधयो मधूनाम् ॥

Across many worlds, O Ashvins, your inspirer’s cry moves among the peoples, O bountiful ones. Come here by the godward paths, O Wonder-workers; here are your treasuries of honeyed delight.

Mantra 6

पुराणमोकः सख्यं शिवं वां युवोर्नरा द्रविणं जह्नाव्याम् । पुनः कृण्वानाः सख्या शिवानि मध्वा मदेम सह नू समानाः ॥

Ancient is the home, and gracious the friendship with you two, O heroic ones; a wealth is there in the Jahnāvī (the flowing stream). Renew again the happy bonds of comradeship; with the honeyed delight let us rejoice together, now in oneness.

अश्विना वायुना युवं सुदक्षा नियुद्भिष्च सजोषसा युवाना । नासत्या तिरोअह्न्यं जुषाणा सोमं पिबतमस्रिधा सुदानू ॥

O Ashvins, together with Vāyu, you youthful ones of good discernment, joined with your teams in one delight—O Nāsatyas, enjoying the soma that is beyond the day, drink it without failing, O generous givers.

Mantra 8

अश्विना परि वामिषः पुरूचीरीयुर्गीर्भिर्यतमाना अमृध्राः । रथो ह वामृतजा अद्रिजूतः परि द्यावापृथिवी याति सद्यः ॥

O Ashvins, around you move many-sided impulsions, striving with hymns and never failing. Your chariot, born of Ṛta and driven by the pressing-stone’s force, circles Heaven and Earth in an instant.

Mantra 9

अश्विना मधुषुत्तमो युवाकुः सोमस्तं पातमा गतं दुरोणे । रथो ह वां भूरि वर्पः करिक्रत्सुतावतो निष्कृतमागमिष्ठः ॥

O Ashvins, the soma most rich in honey-sweetness is pressed and calling; drink it—come into the house. Your chariot, vast in beauty and form, has reached the prepared place of the presser.
