Sukta 19

Mantra 1

प्रति त्यं चारुमध्वरं गोपीथाय प्र हूयसे । मरुद्भिरग्न आ गहि ॥

Toward this fair and forward-moving sacrifice you are called, for the guarding and fostering (gopīthā); come here, O Agni, with the Maruts—so the divine forces of will and storming energy may together kindle our ascent.

Mantra 2

नहि देवो न मर्त्यो महस्तव क्रतुं परः । मरुद्भिरग्न आ गहि ॥

Neither god nor mortal is beyond your greatness of will and intelligent force; therefore come, O Agni, with the Maruts—bring that vast power into our work of offering.

Mantra 3

ये महो रजसो विदुर्विश्वे देवासो अद्रुहः । मरुद्भिरग्न आ गहि ॥

Come, O Agni, with the Maruts—those all-gods, undeceiving, who know the vast spaces: may their truth-knowledge widen our being and keep it free from crookedness.

Mantra 4

य उग्रा अर्कमानृचुरनाधृष्टास ओजसा । मरुद्भिरग्न आ गहि ॥

Come, O Agni, with the Maruts—those fierce ones who have chanted the hymn; unconquered in their energy, they bring the irresistible force that breaks inner resistance and sets the word aflame.

Mantra 5

ये शुभ्रा घोरवर्पसः सुक्षत्रासो रिशादसः । मरुद्भिरग्न आ गहि ॥

Come, O Agni, with the Maruts—bright, terrible in form, strong in right rule; destroyers of what harms: let their luminous might purify us and cut away the devouring impulses that obstruct the truth.

Mantra 6

ये नाकस्याधि रोचने दिवि देवास आसते । मरुद्भिरग्न आ गहि ॥

O Agni, come with the Maruts—those luminous powers who take their seat in the shining realm of the heaven of consciousness, upon the radiance that crowns the summit (nāka).

Mantra 7

य ईङ्खयन्ति पर्वतान्तिरः समुद्रमर्णवम् । मरुद्भिरग्न आ गहि ॥

O Agni, come with the Maruts—those who set the mountains in motion and pass beyond the oceanic flood; they shake fixed formations and drive the being past the engulfing subconscient waters.

Mantra 8

आ ये तन्वन्ति रश्मिभिस्तिरः समुद्रमोजसा । मरुद्भिरग्न आ गहि ॥

Come, O Agni, with the Maruts—those who stretch their rays of power across the ocean; they extend luminous threads through the vastness and connect the higher light to the lower being by strength (ojas).

Mantra 9

अभि त्वा पूर्वपीतये सृजामि सोम्यं मधु । मरुद्भिरग्न आ गहि ॥

For thy first drinking, I pour out toward thee the Soma-honey: come, O Agni, with the Maruts, and take the delight that awakens the will and sets the powers in harmonious action.
