Verses

Verse 5.1

Inside Prashna 5

Key teachings

  • • OM (Pranava) is both the supreme (Para) and inferior (Apara) Brahman, serving as a bridge to both temporal and eternal realms. • Meditation on one matra of OM leads to the human world (Manushya-loka) through the Rig Veda, where one experiences greatness through austerity, celibacy, and faith, but returns to samsara. • Meditation on two matras of OM leads to the intermediate realm (Antariksha) and Soma-loka through the Yajur Veda, where one experiences prosperity but eventually returns to the cycle of rebirth. • Meditation on all three matras of OM (A-U-M) leads to the solar realm (Surya/Tejas) through the Sama Veda, where one is purified of all sin, like a snake shedding its skin. • The three-matra meditator is elevated to Brahmaloka and attains the Supreme Purusha (Para Purusha), transcending the physical body (Jiva-ghana) and achieving immortality. • The three Vedas (Rig, Yajur, Sama) correspond to the three matras and serve as vehicles for the soul's journey to respective lokas. • Complete meditation on the threefold OM leads to final liberation (Moksha), while partial meditation yields only temporary fruits.
