Sukta 4.2
अधा यथा नः पितरः परासः प्रत्नासो अग्न ऋतमाशुषाणाः । शुचीदयन्दीधितिमुक्थशासः क्षामा भिन्दन्तो अरुणीरप व्रन् ॥
adhā́ yáthā naḥ pitáraḥ párāsaḥ pratnā́so agne ṛtám āśuṣāṇā́ḥ | śucī́d ayan dī́dhitim uktha-śā́saḥ kṣā́mā bhindánto aruṇī́r ápa vran ||
Ancestral precedent: the rite as re-enactment of forefathers’ discovery of light; used to strengthen continuity of the sacrificial lineage.
tradition of ṛta-seekers, word (uktha) as power, light-thought unity
The fathers are ‘eager for ṛta’; their aspiration is the engine of revelation and release.
Truth is enacted through word and purity; the covering is removed (apa vran) so satya can shine as aruṇī lights.
Emergence of light from earth/density; revelation as a re-creation of the being.
Mantra-yoga and psychological evolution: speech as force; breaking the subconscient to free light.
dawn (implied by aruṇīḥ)
Earth = dense physical/subconscient; breaking = opening blocked habit-energy; ruddy lights = first emergent illuminations; flame = awakened will and knowledge.
Invoke the ‘fathers’ as inner supports (past strengths); kindle a pure flame at the heart; use truthful spoken intention as uktha to open density.
Muladhara (earth-density) opening upward to Manipura (fire) and Ajna (dawn-light)
Slow-meditative 5-5 breathing; on inhale feel dīdhiti rising; on exhale imagine the earth-layer softening and cracking open to release aruṇī lights.
Purified resolve with emergent illumination
After chanting, speak one concise truth (no exaggeration) and sit silently to feel the ‘ruddy lights’—subtle warmth/clarity—spreading in the body.
Let the narrative flow; keep accents clear on action-verbs (ayan, bhindantaḥ) as per Rigvedic recitation.
Slightly emphasize ‘ṛtam’ and ‘dīdhitim’ as semantic peaks; maintain steady pitch without theatricality.
pratnāso: retroflex ṇ; long ā, āśuṣāṇāḥ: retroflex ṣ; long ā, śucīd: ś + u; keep long ī, ukthaśāsaḥ: ‘kth’ cluster crisp; long ā, kṣāmā: ‘kṣ’ conjunct; long ā, aruṇīr: retroflex ṇ; long ī
Clear, pure, slightly resonant in the chest; brighten on ‘aruṇīḥ’
