Sukta 4.19
अवासृजन्त जिव्रयो न देवा भुवः सम्राळिन्द्र सत्ययोनिः । अहन्नहिं परिशयानमर्णः प्र वर्तनीररदो विश्वधेनाः ॥
ávāsṛjanta jívrayo ná devā́ bhúvaḥ samrā́ḷ indra satyá-yoníḥ | áhann áhiṁ pari-śáyānam árṇaḥ prá vartanī́r arado viśvá-dhenāḥ ||
Wie die Götter, gleich kampfbegierigen Recken, die Welten freigaben, so erschlugst du, o Indra, allherrschender Samrāṭ, dessen Schoß die Wahrheit ist, die Schlange, die sich um die Flut gewunden lagerte. Du brachst die Bahnen auf, du öffnetest die Wege, allnährend, für den weiten Lauf der Wasser und der Mächte.
Indra’s victory-stanzas in Soma rites; supports the moment of ‘opening the paths’ (release of waters/energies) in the inner and outer sacrifice.
Satya as origin (satyayoni), Rita as opened path (vartanīḥ), obstruction as coiling ignorance (ahi)
Opening vartanīs restores right movement (ṛta-gati) of energies and worlds.
Indra’s effective action depends on being satyayoni—truth as the generative ground of power.
Release of worlds and waters: manifestation proceeds by removing constriction so consciousness can circulate.
Integral-Vedāntic reading: truth-consciousness (satya) empowers mind to liberate life-force and widen being.
Waters = prāṇic and emotional currents; serpent = coiled habit/ignorance; paths = subtle channels and functional pathways of action/thought.
Uncoil the ‘serpent-knot’ of repetitive thought/emotion; open inner channels for a wide, nourishing flow.
svādhiṣṭhāna (waters) and ājñā (illumination)
On inhale feel ‘arṇaḥ’ rising as clean current; on exhale silently repeat ‘ahiṃ… ahan’ imagining release; 12 cycles.
Clearing into wide flow (prasara) with alert lucidity.
Name the coiled pattern (fear, craving, rumination). Invoke truth (satya) first—honest seeing—then apply firm luminous will; finish by resting in the widened movement without forcing.
Triṣṭubh with typical udatta on principal nouns/verbs (índra, ahán, vartanīḥ); exact svara follows the recension’s accent marks.
Make ‘samrāḻ indra satyayoniḥ’ a single proud sweep; give a sharp, clipped emphasis on ‘ahann ahim’.
Keep ḻ in samrāḻ as retroflex lateral (often approximated carefully in chanting traditions)., Do not over-separate consonant clusters: pariśayānam, viśvadhēnāḥ., Maintain nasalization where present; keep long ā in samrāṭ, satya.
Clear, forceful, ‘cutting’ on the strike-words; then broaden and soften slightly on the ‘paths/waters’ phrases.
