Sukta 20

Rishi: Atharvanic tradition (hymn to Anumati; specific r̥ṣi attribution varies in ancillary lists)

Devata: Anumati (personified Consent/Approval)

Mantras

Mantra 1

In Übereinstimmung, o Anumati, bist du geneigt: wirke uns Heil und Gutes. Freue dich an der dargebrachten Opfergabe, recht dargeboten; und, o Göttin, schenke uns Nachkommenschaft.

Mantra 3

Welcher deiner Namen ist leicht anzurufen, o Anumati, du gut Leitende, — gebilligt, freigebig: damit vollende für uns das Opfer, o Allbegehrenswerte; und lege uns Reichtum nieder, o gnädige Herrin, reich an trefflichen Söhnen.

Mantra 5

Anumati ist all dies geworden: was steht, was geht, und was immer in der ganzen Welt sich regt.

Frequently Asked Questions

Anumati is the personified power of consent and approval—the divine assent that makes an offering acceptable and lets the desired results (welfare, progeny, prosperity) mature.

It seeks approval of the yajña, protection of the ritual from obstacles, household welfare (śam), agrarian success (good fields), and procreative success (strong sons and progeny).

It is suited to household offerings or the opening/authorization of a rite: recited with simple āhutis into Agni, asking Anumati to accept the offering and bless the patron’s home with increase and children.
