Khanda 1

Recitation with translationKena Upanishad Khanda 1

Verses

Verse 1.1

Inside Khanda 1

Key teachings

  • - The ultimate reality (Brahman) is the invisible power that directs the mind, breath, senses, and speech.- Brahman is not the object of perception (what is seen, heard, or thought) but the subject (that by which seeing, hearing, and thinking occur).- It is impossible to comprehend Brahman through ordinary sensory or mental faculties because it is the very foundation of those faculties.- Brahman is distinct from the popular gods or deities worshiped by people; it is the underlying essence of all.- True knowledge of Brahman involves realizing the limitation of the senses and mind and turning inward to the witness consciousness.
