Praise of the Sacred Geography of Mathurā
dvādaśaitāni tīrthāni devānāṃ durlabhāni ca || snānaṃ dānaṃ japaṃ homaṃ sahasraguṇitaṃ bhavet ||
Varāha (default)
The verse preserves a common Purāṇic rhetorical device: enumerating tīrthas and presenting intensified ritual efficacy to encourage pilgrimage and patronage.
No single site is named here; it refers collectively to a set of twelve tīrthas introduced in the surrounding passage.
It promotes disciplined ritual conduct—charity, recitation, and offerings—presented as culturally constructive practices tied to recognized sacred landscapes.
