atha haṁsā nāma grāme eka-rātraṁ nagare pañca-rātraṁ kṣetre sapta-rātraṁ tad-upari na vaseyuḥ | go-mūtra-go-mayāhāriṇo nityaṁ cāndrāyaṇa-parāyaṇā yoga-mārge mokṣam eva prārthayante ||4||

Now, those called Haṁsas: in a village (they stay) one night, in a city five nights, in a sacred place seven nights; beyond that they should not dwell. Living on cow’s urine and cow-dung, and ever devoted to the Cāndrāyaṇa observance, they seek liberation alone on the path of yoga.

Vairāgya and aparigraha (non-attachment/non-accumulation)Mahavakya: Indirect: non-settling and austerity are preparatory disciplines for the non-dual insight expressed by mahāvākyas.AtharvaChandas: Prose
