मनुष्यशीर्षपाषाणां शक्तिमीनां गदोडुपाम् । उष्णीषफेनवसनां विकीर्णान्त्रसरीसृपाम्
sañjaya uvāca |
manuṣyaśīrṣapāṣāṇāṁ śaktimīnāṁ gadodupām |
uṣṇīṣaphenavasanāṁ vikīrṇāntrasarīsṛpām ||
ในสายน้ำแห่งการสังหารนั้น ศีรษะมนุษย์ดูดุจก้อนหิน หอกเคลื่อนไหวดุจปลา กระบองเหมือนเรือบนผิวน้ำ ผ้าโพกศีรษะและอาภรณ์วาววับประหนึ่งฟองคลื่น และไส้ที่กระจัดกระจายบิดเกลียวเหมือนงู อุปมานี้ย้ำความสยองทางศีลธรรมของสงคราม—กระแสแห่งการฆ่านี้ผลักทุกผู้ไปในทิศเดียวกัน คือสู่ความตาย.
