And that swift horse-born power—when, O Indra, among the Nahusha peoples—you made it blaze forth in front among the clans.
Indra awakens an āśu-aśvya force: swift, action-capable energy (aśva = vital dynamism) purified and directed by illumination. ‘Nāhuṣīṣu’ can be taken as the human collectivities or mixed mortal nature; within them Indra makes the leading light blaze ‘in front’ (agre) among the clans (vikṣu): he sets a luminous initiative at the head of our many inner groupings (thoughts, impulses, habits) so progress becomes guided rather than scattered.
Spiritual progress requires not only insight but a swift, disciplined life-force placed under the leadership of illumination; then the many parts of the nature can move in a coordinated advance.
Indra as leader of peoples, Swift force and illumination, Collective progress under ṛta
Kaṇva poetry often links Indra’s light with energized action (aśva/vīrya), stressing leadership of illumination over the life-force.
Represents a practical yoga: illumination must not remain contemplative; it must ‘go in front’ and organize the vital powers for collective and integral advance.
Sets the luminous initiative at the head of human evolution; awakens and directs dynamic forces toward victory.
The directive intelligence that converts raw speed into guided progress—illumined leadership of prāṇa and action.
Indra hymn segment; possibly used where victory/leadership is sought

4 × 12 (likely).
Quickening feel within a long meter—fits ‘āśu’ (swift) and ‘pradīdayat’ (blazing).
Energizes while keeping order; good for invoking disciplined dynamism.
Indra praise recalling exemplary manifestation of power among human clans; used to invoke similar leading illumination in the present rite
In stotras requesting forward-leading power and success in collective undertakings.
Praise of Indra’s leadership; offering Soma/oblations to kindle victorious force.
Use before teamwork/leadership tasks: invoke a clear ‘front light’ that aligns dispersed energies (inner clans) into one direction.
aśva- 'horse' (PIE *h₁éḱwos) is a classic IE inheritance; in RV symbolism, horse often indicates dynamic life-energy and swift force. pra-√dī 'shine forth' expresses manifestation of light/clarity. nāhuṣīṣu preserves ethnonymic/tribal memory; psychologically it can be read as 'in the human field' where Indra’s force must be made foremost.
Leadership of light in the collective (agre), Manifestation of force in human nature
‘Agre’ leadership symbolizes ṛta-guidance—right order leading the many parts.
Blazing forth is the emergence of truth-light into active life.
Evolutionary leadership: light taking the front position in the human collective.
Aurobindonian evolutionary reading: illumination organizing the vital for integral transformation.
Horse = vital energy; blaze = awakened illumination; clans = inner multiplicity; front = governing principle of consciousness.
Place the life-force under the command of the illumined mind; kindle a ‘front light’ before action.
maṇipūra (will/energy)
Kapalabhāti (gentle, 30–60 strokes) then quiet sitting, visualizing a steady flame at the brow leading the breath-current.
Alert, forward-moving, coordinated.
Chant once briskly, then pause and feel the ‘agre’ principle: decide one clear priority. Let all subordinate impulses align behind it; act from that alignment.
Maintain the udātta rise on ‘índra’ per notation; let ‘pradīdayat’ carry a clear accentual lift to mirror ‘blazing’.
Keep ‘uta tyat’ light; emphasize ‘āśu-aśvyam’ with crisp articulation; make a slight pause after ‘agre’.
āśu: long ā, ś clear, aśvyam: śv cluster clean, not ‘as-vi’, nāhuṣīṣu: long ī; ṣ retroflex; avoid ‘nahushi’ flattening, vikṣu: kṣ conjunct crisp, pradīdayat: long ī; dental d, not retroflex ḍ
Bright, forward, controlled—energy without shouting.
