Outer meaning

The One holds in his hand the thunderbolt placed there; with it he strikes down the Vṛtras.

Inner meaning

The One assumes the Indra-function: the illumined Mind-Will that wields the vajra, the decisive force of revelation. ‘Vṛtras’ are the multiple coverings—habits, inertia, subconscious resistances—that dam the inner rivers (light, force, delight). The mantra is a call to the central divine Power to act as the slayer of obstruction in the seeker’s nature.

Universal truth

Transformation requires a force of clear decision and illumination that breaks entrenched resistance. When the inner thunderbolt is taken up, stagnation yields and energy flows.

Themes

Vṛtra-slaying, Victory, Removal of obstruction, Indraic force

Significance

The seer-vision here is archetypal Indra-yoga: illumination must become forceful enough to break the knot of resistance.
