Outer meaning

Invocation to Sarasvatī—purifying, youthful, of varied life—spouse of heroes, to place inspired thought (dhī) in us; with the divine women, to grant the singer an unbroken, hard-to-assail refuge and peace.

Inner meaning

Sarasvatī is the flowing inspiration that purifies the mind-stream and installs dhī—illumined thought—within. As kanyā (ever-young), she renews perception; as citrāyuḥ, she brings many-coloured richness of life harmonized by truth; as vīrapatnī, she supports the heroic powers (vīra = strong faculties) needed for inner battle. With gnābhiḥ (luminous feminine powers—intuitions, harmonies), she builds an acchidra śaraṇa: a consciousness without gaps where hostile suggestions cannot enter, giving śarman (peaceful protection) to the one who chants.

Universal truth

When the stream of awareness is purified and guided by higher inspiration, life becomes richly varied yet protected; true refuge is an integrity of consciousness—without inner ‘holes’—sustained by harmony and grace.

Themes

Invocation of Sarasvatī, Inner inspiration and right speech, Protection against hostile powers, Feminine divine energies (gnā)
