Sukta 3.27
वाजी वाजेषु धीयतेऽध्वरेषु प्र णीयते । विप्रो यज्ञस्य साधनः ॥
vājī vā́jeṣu dhīyate ’dhvaréṣu prá nīyate | vípro yajñásya sā́dhanaḥ ||
Agni, bearer of vāja (plenitudes/strengths), is placed among the plenitudes; in the sacrificial journeys (adhvara) he is led forward—he is the inspired seer and accomplisher of the yajña.
The will-flame becomes charged with powers of accomplishment (vājāḥ) and is established in states of increasing force. Through the ‘journeys’ of inner practice—successive movements of offering, purification, and ascent—Agni is carried forward as the illumined seer-force (vipraḥ) that completes the yoga-sacrifice.
Growth is not random: when aspiration is consistently advanced through disciplined stages, inner power accumulates and the work of transformation becomes effective and complete.
Force and accomplishment, Progress in the sacrifice, Agni as seer-power
Hymns emphasize conquest of limitations and establishment of divine powers in human nature.
The rishi’s yoga is a progressive leading forward (pra-nayana) of the inner fire through stages of force (vāja), culminating in effective realization.
Gives power to the sacrifice; carries it through stages; ensures fruition.
Executive aspiration that is also illumined—will guided by vision rather than impulse.
Adhvaryu-led sequences where Agni is advanced/maintained through the rite (fire tended through stages)

4 × ~11 syllables
Energetic and progressive; strong forward momentum matching ‘pra nīyate’.
Builds drive and confidence; supports sustained effort and continuity in practice.
Agni as the forward-led flame in the adhvara; practical reference to carrying/maintaining the sacrificial fire and, inwardly, sustaining the will through stages of the rite.
During progression of offerings; to affirm Agni’s capacity to bring the yajña to completion.
Tending the fire, adding fuel/oblations, reciting to strengthen efficacy.
Chant when beginning a disciplined practice cycle (sādhana): establish inner fire, then ‘lead it forward’ daily through consistent steps.
vāja: semantic field ‘strength, prize, plenitude’; linked to √vaj/√vāj ‘to be strong, to speed’ (cf. vāja ‘vigour’). dhīyate: passive of √dhā ‘to place’ (or denominative from dhī); sense ‘is established/put’. adhvara: traditionally ‘sacrifice’; often analysed as a-dhvara ‘unbroken, non-injurious’ (folk etymology), but functionally denotes the rite as a ‘course/journey’. nīyate: passive of √nī ‘to lead’ (PIE *neh₁- ‘lead’, cf. Latin nēre?; clearer: Greek néō ‘to go’ is different; but IE leadership root is old). sādhana: from √sādh ‘to accomplish, make good’.
Vāja as plenitude of force, Yajña as progressive inner work, Vipra as inspired cognition
Adhvara as the ṛta-path: right sequence of inner movements.
Vipra-quality ensures action is guided by truth-seeing, not mere effort.
Accumulation and organization of powers into effective manifestation (sādhana).
Yoga of works (karma-yoga prototype): will + vision = accomplishment.
Fire is aspiration; the steed is vital force harnessed; the journey is the staged ascent of consciousness.
Stabilize will in the heart, then consciously ‘lead it forward’ through the day’s actions as offering.
manipura (will/energy)
4-4-6 breathing: inhale (gather vāja), hold (dhīyate—establish), exhale longer (pra nīyate—advance).
Dynamic concentration; energized equanimity.
Choose one clear inner offering (habit, fear, distraction) and advance it stepwise: ignite, sustain, and complete—let vision (vipra) guide force (vāja).
Maintain triṣṭubh cadence; emphasize udātta on vājī/vājeṣu and a clear lift before ‘pra nīyate’.
Keep ‘vājeṣu dhīyate’ as a single flowing unit; slight pause at the danda; second half more forward-driving.
vājī: long ā; ‘jī’ long ī, adhvareṣu: aspirate ‘dhv’; retroflex not used—keep dentals, nīyate: long ī; avoid ‘niyate’ short, vipraḥ: crisp ‘pr’, light visarga
Clear, bright, slightly forceful without strain.
