Sukta 1.31
त्वामग्ने प्रथममायुमायवे देवा अकृण्वन्नहुषस्य विश्पतिम् । इळामकृण्वन्मनुषस्य शासनीं पितुर्यत्पुत्रो ममकस्य जायते ॥
tvām agne prathamam āyum āyave devā akṛṇvann ahuṣasya viśpatim | iḷām akṛṇvan manuṣasya śāsanīṃ pitur yat putro mamakasya jāyate ||
హే అగ్నీ! ఆయుష్షు యొక్క పరిపూర్ణతను కోరువాడికై దేవులు ముందుగా నిన్ను ‘ఆయు’—జీవశక్తి—గా స్థాపించారు; నహుషునికి నిన్ను ‘విశ్పతి’—కుల/జనాధిపతి—గా చేశారు. మనుష్యునికి నిన్ను ‘ఇళా’—ప్రేరిత వాక్కు/ప్రకాశధార—గా, ‘శాసనీ’—సన్మార్గ పాలనశక్తి—గా నియమించారు; ఎందుకంటే పితృుని పుత్రునిగా, మమకుని (వంశంలో) నీవు జన్మిస్తావు.
